GIRL NEWBIE
Depending on how much time you want to spend on this you might be better off going to a dealer and buying new. Lot's of us hobbiests live and breath this stuff - we can't help it, and we're happy to help out! But if you find your patience wearing ...
The best speaker on the used market for $1000.00
Certainly Spendor, Proac, or Sonus Faber would meet your criteria for sound and hold their resale value reasonably well. I like the Silverines, which seem to sell used for somewhat low percentages of retail but to my ear are wonderful. Some of the...
Where to repair power amplifier in San Francisco
I've heard good things about L&M in Daly City.www.landmelectronics.net/
iTunes
IMHO: Lossless is excellent for high quality earphones, and for playing through a decent stereo. I've no understanding of the other high quality formats (flac?). AAC compression is better than MP3 compression at any given bit rate, but limited to ...
My iPod and me.....
I like it a lot when playing cds ripped losslessly from iPod to my high end system. Otherwise (128, 192...) I find it.. well, never mind ;-)My own version of this is that I love the sound of the Monitor Audio iDeck, a $350 ipod dock - mini system ...
Creek 5350SE vs Rega Mira 3
Audiogon is a great way to try out gear at relatively low depreciation cost. I mostly stopped going to dealers because I don't want to use their time unless I play to buy from them, and I find that I need much more than a quick demo in the shop to...
Creek 5350SE vs Rega Mira 3
My experience is that they are towards the warmer, more musical side of ss integrateds and they would be on my personal short list (I've heard them for brief periods, never had them in my home, also studied their reviews.). The more expensive one ...
Creek 5350SE vs Rega Mira 3
As an afterthought, I swapped in my Audience powerchord in place of the generic. This is what I use on my Cary, and damn, if that Mira isn't starting to sound like the Cary. The powerchord made a SCARY differnce. Ok, everything boils down to syste...
Review: Cary SLP-05 vs SLP-98
Fascinating, thanks very much. I think that many of us have wondered about this comparison. We should see more of these on 'gon.I've been using the SLI-80 integrated. Have long toyed with moving BACK into separates. I don't suppose you have any se...
Creek 5350SE vs Rega Mira 3
Weellll... The Rega Mira 3 is sounding quite nice :)It has a sweet, delicate, polite but lively sound. Not a trace of harshness. Even seems a bit palpable. Definitely lacking in authority compared to some other amps. It has a hint of grain, but les...
Rega Remote codes?
Yes, the Mira uses Solar remote. Distributor wants me to buy the remote. I did a lot of Googling and eventually found a Rega Remote codes page. I plan to try "Phillips RC5" if I can, and see if it works on the integrated. I'd sure like to have a S...
Creek 5350SE vs Rega Mira 3
Actually I'm about to set up a Mira 3 that I got on loan from a friend. I'm not expecting it will compete with my Cary SLI-80, but if it does I'll make that loud and clear.I've tried to get away from tubes for my main system for a LONG time, many ...
Creek 5350SE vs Rega Mira 3
Tubes dude!
Need feedback on Rega Mira 3 integrated amp
According to the Rega manual, you can make some kind of internal changes to adjust the gain. I guess the idea is to make sure that the volume control has a usable range over a variety of systems. At first reading I could not figure out how to make...
REL subwoofer hum
Alas, I still do have a slight hum under the one circumstance that you describe: when the amp is powered off and the sub is powered on. Not a huge problem of course but disappointing. Art
