why do so many discussions turn contentious?
why do so many discussions turn contentious?Because we now live in a world which is extremely contentious. This contention has bled over into every aspect of our lives.
APPLE PHONES.......NO SERVICE
Piss Poor customer Service is now the norm in the USA. They try to do everything with a computer, including the customer service itself. Some things need more explanation than the computer can deal with. Pitiful. I hate to call any place for custo...
Marantz PM Ki Ruby and RME ADI 2 (Am I crazy?)
Indeed, I understand. The integrated is no sloutch. But sometimes strange  synergy kicks in. You'd expect the synergy to be in the pre of Marantz. But IF the DAC is meant to run to the amp, then it is connected the way it was voiced.. Next DAC pro...
Stereophiles 2021 Recommended Components is now on line.
Funny how often the most dishonest are also the most distrusting of others.
Upgrade my CD player or futile effort?
+1 @mesch Considering the limited choice of CDP's and the # of DACS now offered, this is the way to go for digital, unless you stream. Then too I have heard that often the cdp's sound better than streaming. I can tell you from experience that stre...
The Beatles upcoming '' Let It Be '' Documentary Film .....
Is this what you are looking for? LET IT BE - Bing video
Low budget vintage preamp or new
I’m a bit nervous they’ll hum, that I’ll need to spend a lot of time and money repairing them, and that they probably won’t work so well when I use my system to play movies, which I will certainly do at times. Old (vintage) stereo, like old (v...
Looking for a tube preamp with remote control.
If you like the CJ sound, why not wait for a good used one to show up on USAM &/or Agon? As to the passive preamps, I have seen too many people who have tried it go back to a regular active preamp.
Klipsch Forte ii too bright, or is it my room ?
+1 @russ69 +3 @ holmz Even when new I never cared for Pioneer in the 70's. At 50 yrs old its wore out with dried up capacitors, etc. room full of glass and tile Guaranteed to brighten any sound  would a mid-priced tube amp work, +/- $500We no ...
What process do you use to purchase cables?
read, read, read- and read some more. Whole system bought over the last 15 years now not one thing auditioned anywhere, all reviews and user comments. Few times called and talked to users. Almost always my last step is to call and talk with the...
What is a cost effective way to level match, for comparing different hifi components?
You also need to do the test blind Do you REALLY need to be blind to judge equipment? I don't see very well. Is THAT good enough? Or do I need to go blind completely in order to assess the sound characteristics? If so, I think I'd opt for just...
Cables that measure the same but (seem?) to sound different
extended dialogue with a certain objectivist who continues to insist to me that if two wires measure the same, in a stable acoustic environment, they must sound the same. There is a large faction of todays people who are totally clueless about...
Recommended products for polishing Focal speakers
I’d suggest you contact customer service. Normally I’d say an automotive light polishing compound will work. Even then I’d try it in an inconspicuous place to make sure it works alright. Then to maintain, I’d use a very soft brush IE California dus...
My Experience With Tekton
@arafiq  Also, the recent incident where the Tekton owner acted like a bully threatening legal action against people for exercising their right to express themselves was not a particularly savvy move if you ask me. What happened? I missed it.
Why not copy the greats- vinyl LP question
The plain fact is that tape deteriorates! Thus the master does NOT have the sound it had 50 yrs ago. Then there is the lost ones. Plus it wasn't "VINTAGE" then so the records only sold for $2.99 - $4.99. Lots of things happen in 50 yrs. More peopl...
