Poaching vinyl in thrift shops
I find that lately I've had to lower my standards in order to find something to listen to. Else it seems like I don't end up with much each month the other way. Either that or someone else is poaching all the vinyl before I get to the store!
how do i connect the three???
If the sub has a line-level connection (aka RCA) you can patch the sub in using the second dual outputs from your pre (use the single-ended RCA outputs like you would to hook up a second amp). This will allow you to use the volume control to contr...

Panasonic Direct View CRT TV and PS2
Guys, I think he might be worried about screen burn from the black bars on the wides of his new TV. I'm assuming that GTA San Andreas for PS2 is a 4:3 full screen game. I haven't played video games at TV-resolution since I had my Super Nintendo an...
SACD... is this all there is?
Dylan and Stones I think. But I agree most of the titles are classical and jazz. You might find more to your liking on DVD-A. I think there were a few contemporary NĂ¼Metal acts on DVD-A. There's also a live Tesla album on DVD-A. (Tesla: Replugged ...
How Important Is The Cdp?
Some good advice here. BTW, I thought the Toshiba was a smooth player? Granted I've never heard one so I can't be sure. For a cheap experiment you could try to get a $150 used Adcom GDA600 DAC. That's a pretty smooth operator. I had one for a whil...
Speakers for vocalists
Single driver speakers that sound boxless. These can be fostexs or lowthers with tubes or (ideally) full-range, non-hybrid electrostats with tubes. Less ambitious boxes and crossovers can be bad. As a general rule, it may be best to avoid them. I ...
Will a more resolving CDP improve my system?
the Belero test is well known and very effective. The totally transparent sound will shock you. You may not be prepared for the results, good or bad!
Amplification Recommendations Please
I'd run the McCormack unmodded. I think people were just recommending that down the road when you're looking to replace the DNA, you could pursue the SMc audio upgrades rather than replace the amp outright. The stock DNA isn't bad, and it fits in ...
CD v.s LP - When comming from the same MASTER
I used to subscribe to that theory too, it's just didn't pan out that way when I actually listened to some digital vinyl. To me most digital vinyl just sounds more dynamic and natural than most CDs. Too bad I don't have duplicate copies on each fo...
CD v.s LP - When comming from the same MASTER
Short answer the LP, period. If the master was something higher than 16/44.1 and a lot are 24 bit word length and up to 96k, then CD cannot capture all of that data, so in theory the LP will have the edge since it was converted to analog directly ...
Jolida Mod vs VTL ST-85
Agree with Newbee. Also try to address Power, Resonance Control, and Acoustics first. You've probably got lots of potential hidden in your present gear and room. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water! High-end is in the details. :-)
Amplification Recommendations Please
Grounded Grid and McCormack DNA amp. Transparent and fast for the money. Tough to beat.
Single vs Multiple driver loudspeakers...
I always thought this poster nailed it, at least as far as SET amps (which are often paired with speakers like single driver units or speakers without crossovers). link= "Reasons why I like SET topology so much"
