entry level bluray? OK, Thanks. Oppo sounds good.
Cables – Speaker as well as interconnects – ugghh Thanks, Al, I appreciate very much your taking the time. It means that I should never again recommend a brand of cable. If I ever run into the review of the AR9 that states that the only measurable impedence is in the form of resistance, I will se...
Cables – Speaker as well as interconnects – ugghh Al,Does "benign impedence" mean no measurable capacitance?Best Regards,Lynne
Is it possible to get Hi-end sound ?? Elizabeth, What is "bloom" anyway? Distortion, right?Lynne
Cables – Speaker as well as interconnects – ugghh I also like Signal Cable and Paul Speltz Anticables and have both. Audioquest was always a good value too but maybe not as much as the first two. Nordost doesn't work for me. I get a harshness in the highs.
Volume control vs. attenuation control Thanks for the iluminating explanation.
Volume control vs. attenuation control Ergo, my integrated amp has a "gain" setting which defaults at zero gain and which can be adjusted to plus or minus settings. So the zero "gain" setting is set at an arbitrary position by the manufacturer, and actual amplifier gain would be the hi...
difference from higher input impedence on amp? Very cool, Herman. Thanks.
difference from higher input impedence on amp? Don't know how you were intending to experiment, but I keep Rothwell IC attenuators on hand which simply plug into the amp's inputs. I think Partsexpress has cheaper ones. The Rothwells are 10db usually, but they do make a 20 db which you usually ...
Volume control vs. attenuation control It's highly advantageous to play around with both controls in order to match amp and pre. I would consider myself lucky to have such ability. You want enough gain in each to optimize sound quality and not too much as to cause distortion. And you w...
Anticables Review I feel like a broken record, but Paul told me that he didn't think I would like biwire and recommended parallel wiring instead. Turned out I didn't like biwire. He sent a pair of jumpers with the biwired cable and about three weeks in, I used them...
Difference between biampable and non-biampale spea Thanks. My understanding is that the crossovers of my biampable AR9's are connected in series, that when they are single-amped, they are 4 ohms, that when they are biamped, they are 4 ohms. I think what you said about the parallel connection means...
Difference between biampable and non-biampale spea I have to think about what you said, but I'm not considering biamping. What I'm wondering is that if single amping might actually sound better than passive biamping if the amp is big enough and depending how the crossover is designed. I'm trying t...
raspy high end Pnjcic, Timrhu is probably right if they haven't gone through break-in. That is, they could sound somewhat horriible before break-in. But you probably know that. I wanted to try bi-wire against the recommendation of the manufacturer of my cable. I...
raspy high end In my system biwiring was not desirable. Parallel wiring is--running two cables from amp to speaker and then strapping upper and lower range of speaker. Actually you can try current configuration and add straps to speakers. Then you can compare. |
