ETHERNET CABLES
@nonoise  Thanks for continuing the valiant fight, I am though afraid that adherents of digital 1/0 religion will be lost on analogue arguments. In particular your argument on time allignment as well as noise affecting DA conversion emanating fro...
ETHERNET CABLES
@Jerrybj   agreed, ideally with an optimum impedance match.
ETHERNET CABLES
It never ceases to amaze me how digital experts ignore RMi/EFI and ground level distortion. The issue isn’t at all about lost bits but rather about these distortions affecting timing and the subsequent D/A conversion. That’s why cable shielding an...
Best Examples Of Cymbal Decays On A Recording
Lincoln Mayorga The Missing Link, a direct cut LP form the ‘70s or ‘80s. In particular the most stringent recording of a triangle you have ever heard
Contact Enhancer Q45T
my oh my: a lot of shilling going on on this thread. I have used Mad scientist, Acoustic Revive and a few others. Mad Scientist was the most effective
Preamps can color sound considerably. Surprising?
It‘s funny how people argue about this subject. Attenuation and amplification are fundamentally different and the simple fact of the matter is that dacs only require the former. So what may be useful in amplifying a phono signal with rare exemptio...
Basic switch....should I upgrade?
Cleaning up ethernet ahead of the streamer (InnuOS Zenith Mk3)unfortunately is a lot of trial and error. In my case I started by adding a Zerozone power supply to my Etherregen and using an Antelope10m clock to reclock. I subsequently added DXE fi...
Preamps can color sound considerably. Surprising?
@holmz  both are relatively rare cases and the majority of pres between attenuated dacs and power amps add distortion and little else
Preamps can color sound considerably. Surprising?
Which is the ultimate reason for not using a pre when the DAC has a decent - and preferably analogue attenuator. DACs produce sufficient output voltage not to use a pre.
Ether Regen and AfterDark Master Clock
@troidelover1499  may I suggest you start by feeding the Etherregen from a good PSU? In my case that is the first big step. On a resolving system upgrading the clock has major benefits but is obviously significantly more expensive. I reclock both...
USB cable
In my experience keeping the cable as short as possible while separating the 5v DC line is the starting point. After that it’s down to single core and treating the connectors with Acoustic Revive or Mad Scientist contact enhancer. Depending on the...
Townshend or MuRata Supertweeters? Thoughts?
I have been using Murata ES103As for 20 years and wouldn’t part with them for anything.
Sound quality of Roon
@sns, more computer power means more digital artefacts and more noise. There is a school of thought that in digital less is more.
Sound quality of Roon
It seems to me reading all of this that the computational power required for full Roon implementation is per se detrimental to good sound quality. Hence the need for separating the (noisy) core and the clean end point. Other than the associated co...
Speaker Placement and Toe-In
As always: it depends. All other things equal a front baffle design upon toe-in does three things: it increases treble as treble is directionally radiating from the cone; it shifts the first reflection point further into the room which in turn aff...
