Are audiophiles still out of their minds?

Speakers for Rock - up to 1kusd
Exactly Ralph. I have tannoys and they do  very well with all kinds of music .   If I were the OP I would look for a vintage pair of tannoys and have boxes built right away or down the road
Review: Bent Audio Tap Linestage
Antique labs has a TVC preamp. It is quite good however in my system I preferred an active bottle head be pre. The bottlehead offered better image density, three dimensionality and pinpoint imaging. Just a more immersive emotionally connected expe...
Solid state phono/linestage vs Tubes
Ralph's phono is supposed to be exceptional(ive never heard one but trust those who say so). I have tried a rhea signature with a Jim mcshane premuim tube set and was completely underwhelmed. It also had some tube noise so probably that is common ...
5751 tubes in Herron phono
Are you saying you're are you saying you think your EAR is normally better??
Herron VTPH-2
I've heard nothing better than the Herron and the et2 and Delos are a wicked combo as well. I have those on a tnt. The odd time that bit of sweetness on the Delos annoys me a touch tho. I think the cart is the weak link there.
FR64s & Orsonic Av-1s Effective mass ?
The fr64 is an excellent arm. Raul has some strange opinions some times. I think he loves distortions😱
Why are so many companies like harbeth making old speakers designs and charging thousends?
There is no exact point as my explanation is definitely an oversimplification.  Other factors come into play such as complexity of crossover and what if you were hoping to pair with. I prefer to stick with SET and more specifically 845.  Personall...
Why are so many companies like harbeth making old speakers designs and charging thousends?
The trouble is a lot of the newer designs are dictated by WAF. Now  with the transistor more power is available cheaply so they can go smaller and smaller with the box and still get bass response. A lot of the design development goes into making s...
Why are so many companies like harbeth making old speakers designs and charging thousends?
Don't begrudge the real estate the speakers take up, there is no replacement for displacement. These smaller speakers are much harder to drive, which leaves you using a crappier sounding higher power ss amp.  There have been no technological advan...
VPI TNT Turntables
You guys are both right, the hurst motor is the tables weak point and yes it should not be in the plinth. I was amazed years back to see tons of people selling their tnts to get into the then new classic. I don't see how they thought the classic w...
Cartridges in general
nandric you found that the denon was better than the frt4?
Your single favorite component
My bottlehead preamp followed closely by my herron phono stage.
Cartridges in general
Back to jcarr's comment about not understanding rauls aversion to SUTs, oftentimes I don't think Raul makes a lot of sense. I do enjoy his posts though, and one has to admire his enthusiasm. SUTs work amazingly well, if you have a good one. Re car...
Full Manual Turntable-What to do
I have a threaded clamp on my tnt but I still leave it spinning and use the clamp. I don't feel there is any risk to the vinyl.....
