Phonostage Burn-in to keep unit sharp Granite Audio makes a CD you can get from Music Direct. You just plug your CD player into your phono stage, but only track 33 for low output MC.
Phono Pre-amp for Analog Newbie The VPI Scout is a good choice but it's arm has no antiskating and is in serious need of damping. Music Fidelity makes a decent phono stage for around $400. Gotta get a good record cleaning machine like a lot of people have said. VPI 16.5 Also che...
My VPI MK3 skips if I walk near it.Should this be? I've heard VPI is going from springs back to pucks. I have a Mk 4. I removed the sorbathane feet and istalled brass spikes that threaded fine and were the same height as the SAMA. Much less motor vibration. Then I saw that Black Diamond Racing is ...
Help with cartridge selection I'd try a Benz Glider. It comes in 3 different outputs and you can match that to your phono stage. However the Shure is a classic and is probably the best MM made. It won't sound as good as a Glider or Sumiko Blackbird, but you already own it !Bes...
Stylast: Yay or Nay I use that Zerodust bubble and Stylast on every play and LP#9 every 3 or 4 plays. I put the LP#9 on with the bottle brush and then clean with the stiffer brush. I've been told I'm doing it in reverse, but it's my cartridge....
Getting and keeping records clean................ Get a VPI 16.5. If you're serious about analog it's a must have. There are many cleaning fluids: I like the Disc Doctor. Also you must check out Last Record Preservative. You put it on after you clean your records. Please keep in mind new records ...
VPI Scout Placement Black Diamond Racing is making an isolation setup for Scouts and Aries. Consists of 4 carbon fiber pucks and a platform for the motor. This will prevent motor vibrations more that any thing else. You can order them from Music Direct. I have suspen...
Turntable Rack Mounted to Foundation just be glad you don't have a suspened floor like I do. My basement is a forest of floorjacks!
new to turntables.....need help If your 'table is not P-mount you might consider forking out some dough and get a Shure V15 TypeV MR. Probably the best moving magnet ever made and they won't be around much longer. It comes with it's own protractor and is a piece of cake to install.
VPI Scoutmaster questions......... You might want to try the Black Diamond Racing record clamp. It's $300 but makes the other clamps look bad. You can get it from Music Direct. If you don't like it or don't think it's worth the scratch you have 30 days to send it back. My one piece...
Record-playing Rituals? Clean with Zerodust. Apply Stylast, dust record and let it rip
Need to re-discover analog - please help I am suspicious of any tonearm maker that tells you to twist the wires in order to have proper antiskating. VPI make great 'tables. Got a HW19 MKIV myself. But I also have a Graham tonearm. I would do something with a Rega.
Radio interference on my phono stage I have a Pass Aleph Ono and was picking radio stations very lightly. I noticed the chasis wasn't grounded to the third prong in the IEC. The tonearm ground was, but not the third prong. So I loosened a chasis screw and grounded the chasis to a scr...
VPI HR-X, Super Scoutmaster and Acrylic Platters I would consider the tonearms. The Super Scoutmaster comes with that wobbly arm I personally don't care for. If you have a Graham 1.5T you would be taking a downgrade arm-wise. Personally I would work on upgrading what you already have. I have nev...
My VPI MK3 skips if I walk near it.Should this be? If you have a basement or crawlspace you can put floor jacks under your rack. Also you could try a Air Mass 19 from Bright Star Audio. I'm surprised to hear the pucks work better than the springs. I may have to give this a try... |
