Help. System sounds thin and bright or harsh I might have missed it, are you using the Oppo’s Modwright DAC or an external one? The factory stock DAC in my Oppo 105 is relatively smooth, but a little bass lite and lacks depth, compared to the Ayre Codex. The Ayre has their proprietary digita...
Help. System sounds thin and bright or harsh A fix no one has mentioned yet. I've had the same problem over the last few years. Most of my listening time is at night from 11PM to 2AM. Supposed to be the best time to listen. System would start off great and get progressively brighter and thi...
PS Audio S300 amplifier- tube preamplifier recommendation Have the same amp and I’m also looking at tube preamps. Also have an Orchard Audio Starkrimson that has balanced inputs only. I’m torn between the Freya+ and Supratek Chardonnay. Haven’t heard either. I’m interested in knowing what bothers you abo...
Qobuz dropping rights to my favorites. A pox on their house. Fascinating @tonywinga . What a cool field trip. Sony also made black discs for the Play Statiion. Always wondered why, and how they worked? Expect lots more catalog deletions at all the streaming services. Audio services try to have everythin...
Don Sachs Owners Thread @rbaughman welcome to the Don Sachs component thread. You have a great sounding linestage. I have a Bendix rectifier. It is punchy and kind of forward sounding. Exciting, but not very subtle. I find it a little fatiguing. Don't think you have to...
Qobuz dropping rights to my favorites. A pox on their house. Streaming is good for discovery, and little else. It is a bad deal for artists, a good deal for record companies, and a great deal for consumers. The record labels will "fix" the consumer problem. They have never looked after their customers, and ...
Oppo 105D digital volume question Thanks everyone. Unfortunately, the Oppo doesn't control volume on the digital out. The Ayre does it, but no remote control. Oh well. I can have remote using the Sonic Euphoria passive line stage in single ended mode. Thanks again, aldnorab
Sound Dynamics 300Ti Loudspakers Value @orchardaudio thank you for the privilege. Such an amazing amp. Thanks, aldnorab
Ported speakers and class D amps @atmasphere thanks for the info. @erik_squires I definitely want to avoid ballistic. Luxman are sweet. @ml8764ag many amps thru the years, including Dynaco 416, Hafler DH 200 & 500, Pass Labs 30wpc, Series 20 M22, VTL ST150, and others. My P...
Don Sachs Owners Thread @rbautista congratulations on the DS preamp. It is quite an ear opener. I think the remote is set to the preamp and doesn't have to be "paired" . Don't believe there is any way to change this. Bummer. Since you changed the batteries, the only othe...
Sound Dynamics 300Ti Loudspakers Value Still using mine. Never had to recone them. Recently joined the Orchard Audio StarKrimson Stereo Ultra tour. Never heard the SD sound so amazing. The imaging, detail, and bass are beyond what I thought they were capable of. Was thinking of buying ...
Is the PS audio M1200 D class amp worth buying or should I stick to A/B class mono amps I've had the PSA S300 6 months and it is a great sounding amp. The VTL ST150 needs re-tubing and that costs almost what the S300 did, on sale. The highs are smooth and the bass is so much better controlled. Enjoying the S300 a lot. So much so I ha...
LSA Voyager GAN 350 versus Merrill Audio Element Amps or AGD Grand Vivace and Vivace Amps GAN amps should be taken seriously. Orchard Audio is running an Starkrimson Stereo Ultra GAN amp tour on Hoffman’s site. When auditioning is finished just ship it to the next person. Enjoyed my time with the amp. Thanks, aldnorab
Help! Trying to pick an amp/preamp for an Acoustat 1+1s The Sanders Magtech amp is designed to play electrostatics. Not inexpensive, but should be mentioned to make this thread more complete. A friend uses a 200 watt per channel Classe to drive Martin Logan CLS. I use Acoustat Model 3 ( full range) wit...
What should be mandatory in every professional published review- This would be almost impossible to implement. Most equipment is loaned by the manufacturer. The reviewer won't have a component from two years ago, sitting around. The manufacturer won't be interested in shipping old product out for review. Nice i... |
