Supratek Owners Thread @jslateiv thanks for the clarification. Bet the hammertone copper was incredible looking. I'm fine with powder coat black. Thanks, Doug A
Supratek Owners Thread @jackd this gives me a good idea how the D. Sachs compares with the Supratek models. Your comparison Helps a lot. Buying a second Supratek also speaks highly of their sound quality. @jslateiv appreciate your explanation of the circuitry differen...
Supratek Owners Thread Thanks for the extra info @gryphongryph, @jackd , and @jslateiv . I thought the copper might add shielding. High-end Japanese components often use copper lined chassis for this reason. @jackd which Supratek do you find the D. Sachs closer to to...
Supratek Owners Thread What are the sonic differences between a Chardonnay and Cabernet? Does the copper/chrome have any sonic advantage over the powder coat finish? Still thinking about getting one of these for a birthday present. Thanks, aldnorab
Don Sachs Owners Thread Thanks @mogelsvs @bugredmachine . Glad to know it doesn't draw much. Still undecided about the power regenerator. I have my own power transformer, out on the pole. But, things inside the house can also cause problems. The PS Audio is on sale ...
Current Universal Players Use Windows computer to rip the HDCDs to a hard drive. Iirc Microsoft bought the HDCD process. Music Bee decodes HDCD and rips to 24 bit. A HDCD capable DAC should play them. Thanks, aldnorab
Don Sachs Owners Thread Anyone know the power draw of the D Sachs preamp? Considering a power regenerator. Thanks, Aldonrab
Most Musical 6NS7 tube for a Preamp? Surprised one of the most coveted 6SN7 tubes isn’t mentioned in this thread. I’ve seen Melz rated above all the bad boys, RCA and Ken-Rad. Iirc there’s a small window of time in the 50’s that are the best. I’m using the Don Sachs D2 linestage, wi...
Preamp Deal of the Century @noske I've never owned a Supratek. Product doubts are a consideration in any purchase. To be fair, nothing is perfect. We are seeing a 20 year history in this thread. What company has a perfect 20 year history? What car company do you find wort...
Preamp Deal of the Century @deutscherhififan saw your ad and considered it, but I recently bought a Don Sachs D2. I will add a Supratek one day. Your linestage was beautiful looking. I wouldn't have been brave enough to sell it before hearing the replacement. Looking forwa...
Why did my amp just crash and burn ? Glad you got the amp working again. If an amp has to be opened up to replace B+ fuses be careful. Even with amp unplugged and off, the power supply capacitors can still store dangerous energy. Most power amps drain this energy. Saw a friend loose ...
Why did my amp just crash and burn ? Bummer. What amp do you have? Was it playing while you adjusted the speaker wires? Tube amps can't be played with no speaker wires connected. A friend's Classes transistor amp has died while hooking speaker wires with amp on and nothing playing. Y...
Don Sachs Owners Thread @lous good to know. After the 2nd set of Linlai finish breaking in, I will compare them to my other tubes. Thanks, aldnorab
Don Sachs Owners Thread The D. Sachs D2 linestage sounds really great now that the 4 Linlai E 6SN7 tubes have broken in. It is large and imposing with such large tubes stacked on double socket savers. It takes up a lot more shelf room. The tubes seem to do everything dar...
Tube Socket Savers, why? I use socket savers to raise 2 of the 4 Linlai Global E 6SN7. This allows them to fit in a preamp that has too close spacing for such huge 6SN7s. Each tube is 2" in diameter. Thanks, aldnorab |
