Equilizer to reduce surface noise on bad records?
An EQ won't fix that kind of problem. I had the same noise issue but ended up just sticking with CDs and that solved it quite well. Good luck.Arthur
cj no xlr?
They don't believe in it because they feel that a single gain stage is best thanks to its simplicity. It is terrible to suggest Bill and Lew and their crew have a "technical inability." Their chosen route is simply their own design philosophy and ...
Am I going crazy or?
I have noticed that too. But then again, there are all types of people out there.Arthur
Bat VK75 or Mcintosh MC 402
Actually tube amps have output transformers and not autoformers. The difference is in the primary excitation scheme. Overall they are similar - but not the same.I too would go for the MC402. It will never need any maintenance and will sound awesom...
What is "polite" sound?
Each of my audio components have a very distinct personality - just like people and cars. They are all complex systems with complex variables and outcomes. I feel it is very fitting to use personality adjectives to describe philosophies of individ...
amplifier DB meters
I guess I need to clarify "logarithmic." Basically, this means that our ears require multiplicative power consumption to hear louder sound - not additive. Not to mention that the same goes for different frequencies. Bass notes require more power t...
Getting off the merry-go-round – AFRAID TO???
Why are you not enjoying yourself then?Arthur
Leave tune powered up?
Tuners can also stay on all the time. Mine does. I use a coax antenna so the stray noise should be very limited.Arthur
"Warmer" high-powered amp/int stable w/ low load?
NAD C372 would be my recommendation. $900 new. But in this price range, it will be hard to find an amp that is rich as well as quick.Arthur
amplifier DB meters
All the recent McIntosh and some of the new Cary have them. You need an amp capable of producing your PEAK power demands and not average power demands. There can be hundreds of Watts difference between the two. Don't forget that power is logarithmi...
Will a "universal voltage" component work in US?
If they overlook the US market, you won't hear of that component in the first place. That is my guess anyway.Arthur
I need help on directionality of speaker cables
What do you think the "signal" is? And don't forget Ohm's Law...Also, talking about polarity of AC signals is not technically correct. It isn't like DC. AC signals don't have polarity per se, but rather phase angles. The actual direction depends o...
Power Cord for McIntosh Power Amp
I would get an NBS power cord. They are quite analytical and will mate with the 402 very well. I use one on my McIntosh C42 preamp and it's an awesome match. They have several models to choose from depending on your budget. But there are MANY optio...
What is "polite" sound?
I definately feel that a polite sound is due to a slight lack of top end extension. If you are missing the high frequencies, the leading edges get rounded, dynamics are softer, the sound doesn't jump out at you, the bass becomes more noticible, di...
I need help on directionality of speaker cables
Wow, this thread got carried away down the wrong road. As an EE, the way I see it is that cables with direction arrows on them are solely to get the shield grounded properly. End of story. If they have no shield, there is no good reason for the ar...
