VTL L-2.5 vs Rogue 66 Preamps the rogue is very fine sounding. Impressively so for the price compared to Carys and AR. Don't know the VTL 2.5.
Upgraded AC outlets I put in a PS Audio power port and noticed no difference from the hospital orange outlet. Oh well...
I need 'decent' speakers for my cheap system I had Vandersteen 2ce for a while and got a great used deal on them but I like my current Paradigm Reference 100.2s better in may aspects but especially soundstage presentation which is #1 one in my book.
Power amp recommendations for 1000 and under McIntosh MC7100, Classe CA100, or Conrad-Johnson 2250, because I like warm, musical sound with very good soundstage. They each can be had used, only a few years old, for $700 or so.
Floating the Ground Floating grounds are a bad idea. Don't do it (assuming you mean disconnecting the chassis ground) since it could potentially be hazardous. Always keep chassis to earth ground (via power cord). Good advice above. Good luck!
Equalizer for McIntosh preamp - advice, please The McIntosh MQ108 is exactly what you are looking for. You can do a million adjustments with it between 20 and 1000 Hz. It was designed to resolve your standing wave problem. The MQ107 will do all freqencies but you have to swap out plug-in caps ...
Equipment Break-in: Fact or Fiction Ake - read Tireguy's post above. Blackie is right, you would be surprised how much EMI an amp makes - I have tested it in the lab. The allowable level is high for home equipment.
BAT VK-300x Reviews? I like its looks and features and would love to hear it myself. I bet is excellent is if is like the vk20 + vk200. I started a thread with the same question as you a few weeks back but got no answers. It is very new so let's hope someone has had a...
Paradigm or Energy????? I auditioned the Paradigm Reference 100.2 and the Energy Veritas 2.3 at length and left with the Paradigms. The Energys did not have the ultimate smoothness the Paradigms have - they were a little "hard" sounding. Don't get me wrong, they were ver...
Equipment Break-in: Fact or Fiction Tireguy - that is really cool. I have wanted to hear a comparison of burned in and new but never could. I liked hearing you thoughts. There may be another issue here too: one person's huge difference is another's "same song."
Equipment Break-in: Fact or Fiction I tend to agree with Stehno but I also agree that my speakers did indeed change during the first 300 hours or so. I am somewhat confused about what is really happening, even as an electrical engineer doing circuit design. I don't know much about v...
Perfect sound forever ? Not even when new... There are a number of bands that are purposely recording vinyl-like noise to recapture some of that "old time" feel. There was a big article on it in Spin magazine a few months ago. I am not saying that is what you are hearing, but it reminded me ...
amplifier's "slam-factor" I witnessed a similar effect when trying out a Classe CA100. The dealer said its damping factor is about 30 and my McIntosh MC7100 is 100. This is not the only difference but the Mc definately has more controlled slam than the Ca100 (the rest of t...
Should preamp be left turned on? I second SeanDTaylor: Longevity is a benefit only for low power - which a preamp is. For high power Class A or tube amps, this point would be ambiguous (Pass X600 springs to mind). I leave mine on all day and off only at night as, what I feel, is ...
Pre-Amp sound similar to Conrad Johnson The Blue Circle 21 is good (although I have only auditioned it in an all BC setup and not mine), as are the Classe preamps, as far as warmth and musicality are concerned. Did you want tube or ss? However, my favorites are still the McIntoshes. The... |
