Help me set up my system
The Rotel is nice for the price, amps are hard to say - may want to look into Citation amps too. For the CD player, I would definately look into the Sony SCD-C555ES. It is multichannel SACD and a 5 disc carousel that sounds awesome for the price. ...
Paradigm Studio Speakers with tubed gear? Anyone?
There are few posts already on this. I looked into it too for my 100.2s but decided I needed more slam than I could get from the tube amps I could afford (i.e. less powerful ones). The only tube amp I auditioned that could give the 100s the power ...
paradigm studio 100V2 with Mcintosh tubes
I second Rsbeck. I auditioned the 2102 blasting a pair of B&W N801s like I could not believe. The room was 30x30 and the sound filled it completely with no strain at all. The 2102 is much more powerful that it would seem at first (the Levinson...
Best Integrated amp for under 4k
McIntosh MA6900 - simply magnificent in all aspects, from music to looks. Arthur
McIntosh MC 2250,how is it?
Since discovering Mc, I have listened to many of them that coincidentally became available to me for various reasons. I auditioned a Mc2200 that sounded remarkably smooth, on the soft side, with strong bass and a lot of body to the midrange. The v...
What causes phase shifts...Sean?
They are caused by reactive energies introduced by inductors and capacitors, if you are talking about voltage and current. Capacitance makes the current lead and inductance makes the voltage lead. each one in its pure form introduces a minus or pl...
Paradigm vs. Boston Acoutics
If it has to be one of these two companies, I second Paradigm as the clear winner. A friend of mine has some Bostons that cost a few hundred that sound really bad. As a matter of fact, I am convincing him to get some Studio 40s instead. The Paradi...
Something wrong with the Studio 100 v.2?
Many of you seem to forget about synergy. Not any speaker goes with any amp/pre. You have to search for a balance which takes effort sometimes. Personally I find my Paradigm 100.2s to sound best with McIntosh - one of the smoothest sounds I have h...
First System Amp . . .
I would try a used McIntosh MC7100 or Odessey Stratos. I own the former and have tried the last one at home. They are similar in that they have a warm sound that is super-easy to listen to and with good layering and coherence. I just love my littl...
Any comments on the Classe CAP-100 vs. CAP-101??
I think Thsalmon is about right however! I heard the two and they sounded remarkably similar. I think the circuits were largely unchanged when the "new" 101 was made. Good luck! Arthur
which integrated?...
Try the Unison Research Unico. I was impressed with its sound and general quality for the price of $1400 - you might be too. Good luck! Arthur
Advice needed on low volume and hum out of amp.
Perhaps the CJ amp inverts the phase? This may be a long shot but I know that some of the CJ preamps invert the phase and so this amp may also. I don't know what a wired-backwards amp sounds like so I can't say for sure. I don't know either if you...
Best used amp for Nautilius 804's under $1,800?
When I had N804s, I found that a McIntosh amp and pre did the best justice ever. Krell KSA100 did not sound to my liking anymore although it had worked well with my previous Vandersteens. The McIntosh MC7100 however really made the best of the 804...
Levinson, Krell, Classe, Plinius, McIntosh
The MC2102 is magnificent, in terms of looks as well as sound. This will be my high-power tube amp in the future. It is so smooth, yet detailed, with coherence like I have rarely heard. The layering is done with great care, each sound getting spec...
What is next after Paradigm Studio S-40
The "zingy" highs can be easily cured with a good amp. I have heard harsh highs from the 100.2s before but mine are sublime - more perfect than I could have hoped for actually. Called dumb luck - the deciding factor in audio ;). Arthur
