Where can I get small apogee speakers?
Hi:Took this out of the Apogee users web site. http://www.apogeespeakers.totalserve.co.uk/. Hope it helps. "Apogee also manufactured a large “LCR” monitor speakers for use as Left, Center, and Right channel speakers in a home theater system. A wel...
Bi-Amping - Good active crossover? Help
Strongly second the opinion on the Marchand XM-9 Deluxe. Also the HSU outboard x-over is another option. It's smaller and a bit rinky dink looking next to the Marchand but is quite transparent and can be hidden if you so desire
The best CD Player for the money
The Muse Model 9 Signature is one of the most underrated CD players out there plus it is drop dead great as a DVD player (even without progressive scan). I've made extensive comparisons of my Model 9 sig with my Sony 9000ES using CD/DAD/SACD. As m...
Does Muse 9S play DVD-A s?
Tha DAD format IS part of the DVD-A spec, just not quite as effecient at packing the data onto the disk as a "normal" DVD-A disk. But I digress, no the Muse Model 9 (one of the most UNDER-rated components I know of)will not play a DVD-A disk unles...
Best x-crossover under 500
The HSU out board x-over is excellent. Be careful if you order one to make sure you specify no low pass EQ and pick the correct corner point for the subsonic filter. Also, a Marchand XM-9 deluxe two way is an exceptional value and right around $50...
Bi-amping advice for M/L Aerius
Actually an easy way to actively bi-amp your Aerius's is to add a sub woofer with its own amp and a high pass x-over that is worth a damn (Like the Velodyne FSR/HGS series of one from HSU). By rolling off the bottom end of the ML below 50-80 HZ, y...
Apogee s versus a haircut
Did you like the hair cut? Even if you didn't you got a GREAT deal on the Calipers. If you feed'em right, they will reward you with astonishingly good sound. However, the first step is to let them breath and this means distance from the front wall...
THETA GEN 5A OUTPUT GAIN CHANGE MOD
Leave the Theta alone, kick the cat out, get a Reference Line Premminance 2 passive preamp, enjoy the improved and effortless musicality then use the extra couple of thousand dollars elsewhere in your system and take your main squeeze out for a ni...
Coping in an Age of Uncertainty
I think this whole thread is why the Sony 9000ES is such a compelling product. The only thing it doesn't play is DVD-A (but it will play the 2 channel 24/96 disks which ARE part of the DVD-A spec)& SACD 6 channel (which I bet we will NEVER see...
9000es burn in questions?
Timely thread Ears as I'm burning my 9000ES in as I type this. Loved it right out of the box, hated it at the 25 hour mark, liked it again at 100 hours. Yada, yada, yada. The easy way is to go to Radio Shack and get a strip of 2-4 female RCA phono ...
Biamplification in Mid-Fi?
One easy way you can actively bi-amp is by simply adding a powered subwoofer that has a good high pass x-over section. And there lies the problem. I've run into only two brands that offer "inexpensive" subs that have good (read smooth & transp...
SONY WEGA and component video .........
Sounds like your connections are OK. Try getting into the DVD player's menu and cranking DOWN the sharpness control and setting the Velocity Scan Modulation control to OFF on the 32FS16. You may be over cooking the 1's & 0's a bit (no pun inte...
3.6R and Amps
I heard these Maggies driven by a Reference Line Silver Signature amp (Stereophile Vol.20, No.7)and was flabbergasted. So much so that I bought the amp. Works equally well on my Apogees. I've been a big fan of their pre-amps and the amp line is al...
need reasonable preamp w/headphone
OK, now don't laugh toooo much, but the Music Fidelity X-Can V2 is an excellent pre-amp in it's own right. It's got high end written all over it and it's one of the few active pre-amps that I actually like. Looks funky with the cables coming out o...
Best Sounding Passive Preamp
I've owned the Creek, Adcom passive control unit and McCormack Line Drive Deluxe & TLC and for the money ($150 "used")the Adcom is great (if you can find one). However, by far the best passive pre amps I've ever run across are made by Referenc...
