No sound OPPO 105

Hi,

Having problems with setting up my OPPO 105. Tried following manual but appears not to work. I have a OPPO 105 linked to a Hegel H80. I am streaming Tidal from laptop to Hegel no problem. Purchased a SPDIF cable and linked from OPPO to Hegel so can get sound from Tv/streaming, blue ray etc. but no sound what so ever.I presume I am utilizing DAC from OPPO? Is this correct?

Could someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'm sure it's to do with set up on my Oppo. I connected the cord on Hegel 80 coax1.port to OPPO Coaxial port next to hdmi.in port.

Appreciate any help and step by step instructions. I love music but hate the process of trying to set up

Thanks,

No. You're not using the DAC in the Oppo. I know that it can be confusing if you're new to setting this stuff up. You have 3 DAC's right now in your system. One in the PC, one in the Oppo and one in the Hegel. The key thing to remember is that you are only going to use 1 of them, and that will depend on what you are trying to do. The easiest way to visualize it is to follow the music. The reason you need a DAC in the first place, is to convert the digital signal to analog because we don't have the ability to listen to music in digital like a computer. For our ears to listen to music, it has to be in the form of analog. If you were to plug a pair of headphones into your computer, and listen to music, you would be using the DAC in your computer.

When you are connecting your PC directly to your Hegel, what kind if connection are you using? It can be done 2 ways. You can run a cable from your headphone jack on the computer into a regular analog input on your Integrated. Doing it this way is using the dac in your pc, and it's connected to your amp just like you would a tuner or cd player. The other option is to run some type of digital cable from your pc to the dac in your Hegel. Doing it that way would bypass the dac in your pc, keeping the signal digital, and then use the dac in the Hegel to do the conversion to analog. Before we can go any further, we need to know how are you connecting your pc to your Hegel, digital or analog?
Hi Zd542

Thanks for your response. No in relation to linking my computer that is not the issue I am just using a USB audio cord from computer to Hegel USB so I can play Tidal which works great so using digital. The issue I am having is that I am wanting to have sound from the streaming service and blue ray through my main speakers and its not working. On the Hegel when going from computer to USB in back of Hegel I have it on the USB setting on the H80 and sounds great. However I have an info link (straightwire) - SPDIF Cable going from Oppo to Hegel. My understanding was this was the cable that I need in order to play sound. I select on Hegel the Coa 1 setting and it just crackles and I get no sound what so ever?

Hope makes sense? The SPDIF is still going into the back part of the OPPO DAC operating system and I have followed settings on page 68 of Oppo 105 hand book.
Update...play CD on OPPO via He gel with Coxal cord and music plays fine. Problem having no sound from blue ray or streaming off OPPO 105

I don't know too much about Blue Ray, but it sounds like a compatibility issue. For now, I think the easiest thing for your to do would be to just use the DAC in the Oppo for Blue Ray, and any other formats that are giving you trouble. All you would need to do in this case, is to run a pair of regular analog IC's from the analog out on your Oppo to one of the Analog inputs on the Hegel. You can also leave a digital cable going from the Oppo to they DAC on your Hegel, and just switch back and forth between them using the preamp functions on the Hegel. Essentially, you are treating the Oppo like you would 2 different sources. The analog input would be Blue Ray and the Digital input would be CD, MP-3, etc..
