I've not been able to determine how to put a photo on a post, and not just a link - how is it done? 

Copy and Paste!

You need an image address in order to copy and paste. One way is to google some images, choose one, and then right click "copy image address" and then paste it into the URL* box of the image icon from above. You can do the same for GIFs. You may not get exactly what you want so to do so, you need a site that can store the ones you want. 

To do that, go to something like imgur.com and create a free account. Then you can transfer all the images and photos you want to your own account and create your own library from which you can copy and paste since imgur.com becomes the image address. Then, all you need to do is copy that image address and paste it like described above. Hope that helps.

After posting several photos on this site, I just tried to do it again, using the same method.  It didn't work.  This site is wacky as hell.
