Would my system benefit from cable upgrades?

Hi All,

So I am wondering if my system may benefit from Cable Upgrades.

I consider my system to be very entry level

I have the following main components:

- Vincent SV-500

- Martin Login Motion 40 Speakers

- Mo-Fi Studio Desk TT

- Technics SL-G700 SACD Player

- Questyle DAC

As for power connections, I have a IsoTek Sirius EVO 3 Power Strip and entry level AudioQuest Speaker Cables and Power Cables.

The interconnects at the moment are pretty generic.

I am thinking about starting with the Speaker Cables and at least the Power Cable for the Amp to upgrade to something more substantial.

But also wondering if it would really be a benefit to my system or would I need to upgrade to much better components for cables to matter?

If I start dropping a few thousand on all the cables (speaker, power and interconnects) I wonder if I would experience a difference?

Just wanted to get opinions.

Thanks

Don't waste your money! Wire has the least effect - if any - on sound quality. The wire fanatics will claim otherwise! If you want to hear a real improvement buy a better - usually a lot more expensive - pair of speakers. Let the stone throwing begin!

Your system would benefit from better loudspeakers before the fine tuning with cables.

NO ONE can tell you whether/how your system, room and/or ears will respond to new/improved interconnects.   There are simply too many variables.

The only way you’ll know for certain, is try them for yourself.

The least expensive way: contact the guys at The Cable Company and take advantage of their lending library.

For a pittance, you can try a few of their offerings and the rental fees are applied to any purchase made.

In you shoes: I’d try the three Audience Ohno cables, currently available (RCAs/url below), between your TT, DAC, SACD player and Vincent.   With new/improved cables, in those critical positions: you should easily gain the knowledge you seek, one way or the other.    Even with your current speakers.

Whether to explore/spend further: up to you!

@jay73 -

So I am wondering if my system may benefit from Cable Upgrades.

The short answer is YES!

But also wondering if it would really be a benefit to my system or would I need to upgrade to much better components for cables to matter?

The short answer is - there is NO need to upgrade!

I’ve applied good cables to...

  • Bluetooth speakers (i.e. power cables)
  • mini systems costing $250 - i.e. all cables
  • up to Audiophile grade systems in excess of $60k

Everyone of them exhibited a very noticeable improvement in sound quality - mainly in the area of dynamic performance - for example...

  • that "crack’ of a drum strike
  • and the textures and punch of a solid bass line

For that - I would take a look at the Zavfino range of cables

They have good entry level cables at reasonable prices

  • but I would start with their cables that use OCC copper, because that will improve dynamic performance of your system over those cables that use OFC copper.

Zavfino also employs a very good cable geometry to lower the noise floor and improve clarity and details i.e. compared to other brands that use a more "conventional" cable geometry.

Hope that helps - Steve
