Will built me a SET 45 amp on a Dynaco chassis that is superb! Beautiful gloss white powder coat finish, two C6C pentodes to drive the pair of 45's and a 5V4 rectifier. A first-rate SE DHT amp!

I have one since March of this year and really like it. Will is a perfectionist builder and the sound is excellent. I owned an ST-70 with the VTA driver board prior to this and prefer Will's original version using NOS 7643 driver tubes. Will's is much quieter at idle too than my previous ST-70. Mine is ultralinear 35wpc and he will do a triode version if you prefer that. My primary amp is Atma-Sphere Class D monos. Having owned tube amps for years I missed having one around to swap in and out for fun and change of pace. |
tooblue, if you can share more - was it lacking drive or dynamics in any way, when paired with less efficient speakers by chance? I ask because I have been working with a few different builders to decide to scratch build another set of lower power EL34 monos close to Will’s spec. My primary speakers are 93db/1w efficiency. I listen at LOW volume levels mostly. I don’t want to have to turn it up a lot to hear it. I won’t be replacing my speakers. I may be asking for too much out of these pseudo type EL34 amps. Any thoughts on yours, how and why you moved on...?. Thx. |
Will sold his rebuilt ST70 Dynaco amps on this site till he got frustrated with some of the posters here and switched his sales to US Audio Mart. WTS, I did a lot of research on his amps and some of the competitors that do, IMO a quality build as well and went with Chris Keller who also sells on USAM. Chris starts with a new chassis and does some really cool tube changes ( switched to 12AU7s on the smaller tubes for about $1,000.00 less than Will, the fit and finish of Wills amps are second to none and he does move the RCAs to the back of the amps also Will's amps are just plain gorgeous. I wanted to try that Dynaco magic for my self and the EL34 tubes are my favorite power tubes, but did not keep the amp long as it was not a good fit for my system. I have never heard any thing bad, ever about Wills amps and all his customers seem to be more than satisfied. I am sorry I can't give you first hand experience but thought my response might be pertinent to your question. Enjoy the music |
