I’m surprised that not more people have pictures off their set-ups... there are very few contributors, some regular contributors, some long time members, with zero pictures of their systems.. Why do you think that is? Are they worried that someone is going to steal their stereo because they see pictures of it? Or are people ashamed of their systems? I don’t get it. It’s much easier to understand where someone is coming from when you see their setup!

Tomic Have you ever seen any of those real mutts, the LS motored 914 cars. Purists vomit when they see them, then cry when they drive around them... Lol. A local guy here has one, really nice work on the motor install, sounds like pure evil and just rips from a dead start too. Not sure i could do that to a 914 but it looks like fun.
At least here in California, water cooled P car values still sink like a rock unless it is very rare... 3 years old, low miles, half of MSRP.... kinda like esoteric stereo gear...
Uber - I became aware of the 914 in 1976 when it could navigate the hairpin S in front of the local HS at full song... my recollection is the Trans AM just about hit the building.... that led me down a path, several really including of course Lotus ( really nothing ticks a P car driver off more than to be bested by A lotus, auto cross, you name it... but yes, it was for a time popular to cram a Chevy small block in there... I am actually contemplating a P car for down here - people actually drive them... 2.0 parked in front the other day w surfboard out the targa... how fun
However Mijo Is correct that you really have to do as much work as you can on your 911 unless you are loaded. And the Porsche boxed alternator is about right.
I had a Mercedes AMG V8 coupe a few years back and a simple AC hose joint failed. Now granted it was a bit of a fancy moulded hose but.... $278 for the AMG branded one, $105 for the "regular" Mercedes part, same exact part, different part numbers and prices.
The wrench on it yourself $$$ Savings applies to most of the fun toys... boats and airplanes make cars seem plebiscite...
until of course your numbers matching is overrun by ineptitude- knowing one’s limitations is sometimes important For example somebody here mentioned the venerable 512, certainly not something I would do a valve job on.... any garden variety Keith Black is more my style...

My amps, pre-amp and phono pre-amp are custom built. My SME IV arm is custom upgraded. My cabling doesn't indicate anything. So, why post pictures of a mid-high end system when it is meaningless. The room photos don't indicate the 16" thick 5 layer bass trap built-in constrution, 12" 3000 psi steel reinforced slab, etc. So, I don't post because it isn't as beautiful as Millercarbon's system.

Tomic That sounds just like my street. On any given day I can wander up and see.... 3 rusty Ford Exploders, 1 or 2 pimped out Crown Vic’s, Possibly a lowered Honda Civic replete with 5” zorst. Oh and the latest star is a tail dragging lifted 4x4 Ram.... I kid you not, that one has to be seen!

Check ABS modules within the Volkswagen group. It used to be $1000 vs. $1500 vs. $3000 depending on the dealership (eg. Audi vs. Bentley) you bought it in. They lowered the prices since then a bit, I heard.

How are they with spare parts?
Check Pinzgauers. They are, in general, much more nimble and easier to live with. Not exactly your Range Rover Vogue when it comes to luxury, but they climb like a goat. Depending on configuration, it can almost be a practical grocery shopping vehicle. And with sizes of SUVs these days, it is (comparatively) not even that big.
