Kimber Hero's are great or if dollars are important the PBJ's can not be beat for the money. |
If you can stretch above hero, that's a good recommendation, the Select 1011 with wbt 0108 is outstanding. Warm, fullbodied, smooth but plenty detailed. The best attribute is the pitch definition in the bass region, just outstanding. |
i have auditioned kimber select, i have owned kimber pbj and auditioned kimber hero. i would stay away from all of them, given your characterization of the cdp player.
none of the kimber cables are warm. warm is a coloration. kimber aims for neutrality.
call them up and ask them what their philosophy is.
it is very hard to find warm cables. no designer will admit to deliberately producing a colored cable.
finding one is very difficult. |

If everybody shares the same thinking or philosophy as yours, I reckon there wouldn't be any discussions on CD players, amps, preamps, speakers or cables. In fact the forums wouldn't exist. Reviewers won't be able to use any adjectives to describe the product in review or make any comparisons. Bobrock, sometimes it is difficult to get advice without alot of noise.....google 1011 reviews and do a little research. The 1011 is the 1010 with an additional run of copper which is designed to help out systems on the lean side. What it does for my system is what I stated above. good luck |
i like a dull, veiled, laid,back, boring sound capable of putting me to sleep. i hate treble and i don't like detail. i like subtractive coloration to such an extent that all recordings sound the same. you can talk about detail, neutrality all day long.
if you don't tap your foot, it doesn't matter.
i want to relax, not bothered by detail or dynamics. veil the sound and cut off the highs. darkness and dullsville is my motto, by choice. thick caramel syrup makes me happy.

i will try to clarify. my own personal preferences are unattainable. i now recognize that i will not find products which will give me the presentation i like.

most manufacturers aim for neutrality, but they don't achieve it.
most products deviate slightly with respect to additive and/or subtractive coloration. very few products exhibit gross distortion, either allegedly pleasant or unpleasant.
my position on cable is very simple. listen, listen, listen. don't expect a very warm sound from any cable. |
