Whats playing on your system today?

Today I decided to listen to two of my favorite rock guitar heros and one great vocalist. Guitarist' Robin Trower, Ronnie Montrose and vocalist Davey Pattison.

I listened to Trower songs:
Bridge of sighs, Stitch in time, The fool and me, my personal favorite- Too rolling stoned and others.....

Then I pulled out "Gamma".
I listened to: Razor King, Wish I was and Skin and bone and others.....

Davey Pattison hooked has also up with Michael Shenker also. I really enjoyed my day so far. Anybody else heard anything good?

faster61woman,
Check out some of your postings. I really enjoyed Jimmy D. Lang. Starflyer is an easy listen. Howe Gelb and Neko Case are very good recordings, just not something that I would normally listen too.

radfrad,
I pulled up DP and "Hush" you referenced. It's great. Lots of energy on that whole recording. As far a them being in the Guinness Book for being the loudest, I would have to challenge that. That may be the official record, however I personally witnessed Wendy O Williams and the Plasmatics live at Bogarts in Cincinnati, OH. Literally holding my hands over my ears to pass the stage to go to the restroom. It was blistering. BTW, she used a chainsaw to remove the head from a Boy George manikin!

Prog-rocker Steve Wilson (Porcupine Tree), Luminol....This song is 12:00 long, it's recorded very very well. I really like the driving bass and drums on this one. keyboards are frantic. It rocks!

Deep Purple.   Concerto For Group and  Orchestra       CD 3 disc set
Strange arrangement for the group that is in the "Guniness Book" as being the
loudest group ever!
. Has The Royal  Philharmonic Orchestra with them

About half the songs are classical, not a big fan of that,  BUT.   has has a great Awesome  Live   Version of the song. "HUSH" worthy the CD set for that song alone

Glenn Hughes, The way it it. I feel it's his best. But he has soooo much its difficult.
Dead Soul Tribe, song "Some things you can't return". (Haunting!)
Kingdom Come, song "Twilight Cruiser".
Trapeze, Medeusa............ radfrad, Glenn Hughes is great on this one.

Last night I assembled our indoor/outdoor A/V system on the patio. Friends, family and neighbors were invited. We listened to a bunch of CDS' to and then at dark we watched Jurassic World. I know this isn't an A/V site so go easy on me. But I've got quite a cool little setup on the cheap. Good times.

Joanne Shaw Taylor, Songs from the Road, DVD.

I spent last evening with my Brother and arcam88 and watched Joanne Shaw Taylor's "Songs from the Road" DVD. Filmed in London in a small club she put on a hell of a show.

The set list is great and full of blistering solos. She also knows how to slow it down and walk you through songs like "Jealousy" and "Diamonds in the dirt". Her tallent is on par with current and past blues guitar greats. (I think she channels Stevie Ray) Her vocals are fantastic and unique and the way she attacks her Gibson guitar is relentless. Without useing a guitar pick.

The audio is loud and a bit over driven. But the talent and musicianship makes you forget any production issues. I highly recommend watching the disc if your into concert DVD's and blues. She is one of my favorites young blues guitarist.

She must be doing something right. She opened for Glenn Hughes. Glenn know talent.

Nutty - that JJ Grey & Mofro you posted about over on the Minority Report is really really good.  Found them on the Spot.  Listening to "Brighter Days", a live recording.  Really well done.  Great performances.  Great soul singer.  Fantastic rhythm section.  Good melodies.  That would definitely be a band to see live.

+ 1 on Take what you need. I don't believe Trower has a bad albumn. I have Davey Pattison on my "top vocalist" list as well. We probably should have mentioned James Dewar also. He's mighty good as well.

Check out this band....Red Stone Souls. (Heavy stoner doom blues.)  "Harder every day".

Jackyl, S/T CD. I saw Jackyl twice in Cincinnati. Jesse James Dupree is one of the best front men in rock-n-roll. I aslo listed him on my top 25 best rock vocalist.

The Nines . Don’t be confused by other bands with the same name (especially a wedding band that goes by that name). You want Steve Eggers’ power pop trio from Canada and the self-titled 2011 release, specifically (first track: Sun Don’t Shine); only available as a download, unfortunately.

Here’s a link to the full album on Spotify.

Hi Radfrad - You and Nutty were who I had in mind w/r to thanking for the Trower recommendation.  I will definitely sample some of those titles you listed.  I recognize a couple as being on Spotify.
Trower has a lot of later releases that are not his classic  older signature  well known signature songs but  Clearly Trower .   A sorta easier listening ,  Certainly shows his love for the Blues. . My opinion anyway
I can listen to any of these straight thru from start to finish

I have  these on CD.  Most of these I got from his Online Store on his website
Just to name a few

Back it Up
The Playful Heart
Another Days  Blues
What Lies Beneath
Roots and Branches
Someday Blues
Go My Way

Enjoy Robin Trower

Hey Nutty.  Thanks.  Good hearing from you.  Was away a little bit.

Got to say,  Trower sounds darn good on those 2 latest releases.  I didn't even realize it was him singing until I came across a reviewer on Amazon commenting about it.  Heck, even if he's getting some auto tune help....he sounds real good - vocally, instrumentally, writing-wise - never mind for a 70 something.

BTW - Robin Trower LIVE which I'd never heard before was an absolute revelation to me. Just splurged on 2 BGO double CDs: Earth Below & Live; Long Misty Days & City Dreams + Twice Removed (also a BGO CD).  Will listen to the later 2015/2016 stuff on Spotify for a while before buying.

Hey ghosthouse,
Good to hear from you. I believe Trowers vocals on his latest effort have really improved. Seems like he’s gotten more confidence. More swagger.
