Nutty - that JJ Grey & Mofro you posted about over on the Minority Report is really really good. Found them on the Spot. Listening to "Brighter Days", a live recording. Really well done. Great performances. Great soul singer. Fantastic rhythm section. Good melodies. That would definitely be a band to see live.
Whats playing on your system today?
Today I decided to listen to two of my favorite rock guitar heros and one great vocalist. Guitarist' Robin Trower, Ronnie Montrose and vocalist Davey Pattison.
I listened to Trower songs:
Bridge of sighs, Stitch in time, The fool and me, my personal favorite- Too rolling stoned and others.....
Then I pulled out "Gamma".
I listened to: Razor King, Wish I was and Skin and bone and others.....
Davey Pattison hooked has also up with Michael Shenker also. I really enjoyed my day so far. Anybody else heard anything good?

Joanne Shaw Taylor, Songs from the Road, DVD. I spent last evening with my Brother and arcam88 and watched Joanne Shaw Taylor's "Songs from the Road" DVD. Filmed in London in a small club she put on a hell of a show. The set list is great and full of blistering solos. She also knows how to slow it down and walk you through songs like "Jealousy" and "Diamonds in the dirt". Her tallent is on par with current and past blues guitar greats. (I think she channels Stevie Ray) Her vocals are fantastic and unique and the way she attacks her Gibson guitar is relentless. Without useing a guitar pick. The audio is loud and a bit over driven. But the talent and musicianship makes you forget any production issues. I highly recommend watching the disc if your into concert DVD's and blues. She is one of my favorites young blues guitarist. Arrived new CD to me. Recorded 2011 says on the cover Glen Hughes. Soulfully Live in The City of Angels. 2 cd set Very Deep Purple sounding in many respects Just up my alley. Great sonically also. L.A. Blues Authority V. CD Ambrosia, Life beyond L.A. Glenn Hughes, The way it it. I feel it's his best. But he has soooo much its difficult. Dead Soul Tribe, song "Some things you can't return". (Haunting!) Kingdom Come, song "Twilight Cruiser". Trapeze, Medeusa............ radfrad, Glenn Hughes is great on this one. Last night I assembled our indoor/outdoor A/V system on the patio. Friends, family and neighbors were invited. We listened to a bunch of CDS' to and then at dark we watched Jurassic World. I know this isn't an A/V site so go easy on me. But I've got quite a cool little setup on the cheap. Good times. N |
Deep Purple. Concerto For Group and Orchestra CD 3 disc set Strange arrangement for the group that is in the "Guniness Book" as being the loudest group ever! . Has The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with them About half the songs are classical, not a big fan of that, BUT. has has a great Awesome Live Version of the song. faster61woman, Check out some of your postings. I really enjoyed Jimmy D. Lang. Starflyer is an easy listen. Howe Gelb and Neko Case are very good recordings, just not something that I would normally listen too. radfrad, I pulled up DP and "Hush" you referenced. It's great. Lots of energy on that whole recording. As far a them being in the Guinness Book for being the loudest, I would have to challenge that. That may be the official record, however I personally witnessed Wendy O Williams and the Plasmatics live at Bogarts in Cincinnati, OH. Literally holding my hands over my ears to pass the stage to go to the restroom. It was blistering. BTW, she used a chainsaw to remove the head from a Boy George manikin! Live From California 2 CD set Deffinately some "Symphonic Rock" with Keith Emerson in there Down right Emerson Lake & Palmer sounding some tracts Some Deep Purple sounding tracts also With Glen Hughes vocals , and Marc Bonilla guitar to the mix, you get an enjoyable ,well recorded ,listening experience. +2 on Collective Soul. Their CD's are recorded well also. Yes, Going for the one. 1977 features the return of Rick Wakeman. Hawkwind, In search of space, (Space rock, prog rock) This one is not everybody's cup of tea, Howerver it does feature Lemmy on bass.... Gennsis, S/T. Led Zepplin IV, More progressive rock. "Stairway to Heaven" probably the first song to be played on the radio longer than 4 min, right?! N |
I posted this song on 6/20 but I just pulled it up again. It's by Steve Wilson. Very talented. Played with Porcupine Trees, Yes,Tull, King Crimson, Fish, XTC... I love the "driving" bass line in this song. It features Nick Beggs, some might know him from his big hair 80's days with the band Kagagoogoo.
