Whats on your turntable tonight?

For me its the first or very early LP's of:
Allman Brothers - "Allman Joys" "Idyllwild South"
Santana - "Santana" 200 g reissue
Emerson Lake and Palmer - "Emerson Lake and Palmer"
and,
Beethoven - "Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major" Rudolph Serkin/Ozawa/BSO
slipknot1
Bruce Cockburn  "Stealing Fire"

BTW, "Cycles" may be an overlooked lp, SQ=EX!
Dick Hyman "From the Golden Age of Swing"  Reference Recordings/45rpm...interesting it sounds good at 33rpm as well.

Steve Young "Seven Bridges Road"
Chris Whitley "Living With the Law"
Allman Brothers "Eat a Peach" Abbey Road/1/2 speed

upon cueing up "Eat a Peach".....yeaaaahhhh……..
@convinced, I'm impressed! I discovered Smiley Smile (and Wild Honey) in the spring of '68, and soon read (in Paul Williams' Outlaw Blues, a great book on music) about the entire Smile album debacle. That album would have been, had it been completed and released when it was scheduled to be, the pinnacle of Pop music, a work of near genius (Brian Wilson is as close as anyone in Pop has come to the Classical masters). Still, Smiley Smile is a collection of very unique, original songs. Very spooky and otherworldly. I love it.
Finally got the new turntable up and going so for the first few LPs:

Donald Fagen - The Nightfly, Mofi One Step  - whoa!! Awesome
Nora Jones - Feels Like Home - AP 33rpm 200gram, holy low-end Batman!
Son House  - the Legendary Son House  AP 33rpm 200gram, so amazing, dobro sounds in the end of the room
Thanks @boxer12

It is always nice when a significant purchase works out

Fleetwood Mac - Rumors- AP 45rpm 200g
@6t5-gto,
Congratulations! Did you say your cartridge is one you've used previously?
@slaw

Slaw, the cart is new, I installed an Ortofon Quintet Black, which is the cart this table comes with if you order this table with a cart. The previous owner took his cart to a new table.
The Ortofon is much smoother on the high end and MUCH better on the low-end extension but I suspect that is table and arm related as well.
Overall I am very pleased so far. I suspect the cart will break in nicely.

Right now:
Beck - Morning Phase - incredible
I was also posting the other night how blown away I was with my new reissue of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road but somehow it didn't post??
I picked up a new, relatively cheap ($26 I think) copy at a local store as my old copy is pretty rough. Mercury tri-fold version. Holy smokes the new one is incredible. Vinyl is super heavy and nice, SQ is phenomenal, staging, clarity, dynamics are off the chart. I guess that Bob Ludwig knows a thing or two?? Highly recommended if you have an old copy like I did.
The Magnetic Fields / The charm of the highway strip

6t5gto / Just put a new cartridge & head-shell on tonight as well. Clearaudio Virtuoso Ebony. The head shell has silver leads which I know from past experience takes a few 24 hours to settle down. Sounds real good considering though.
Robin Trower "Long Misty Days"
…………………………..

@boxer12,

If you don't mind my asking, what tt are you using?
Walter Trout "The Blues Came Callin’"

Neil Young  "American Stars n' Bars"  from the box
Kevin Morby "City Music"
Dylan "Blood on the Tracks"

waiting on some new tubes
Regarding the Neil Young box/lp… I've had the box sitting around for about 10 months. I finally cleaned the above lp for my first listen. It sounds fantastic!. I bought it from www.insound.com at 55% off. What a deal!
Cat Power "Sun"...recorded way too hot. Listenable/enjoyable at lower volume.
………………………

just ordered another Stillpoints Aperture
@slaw thank you. Brimar 6060 yellow T in the Microzotl pre

- Betty LaVette "The 1972 muscle shoals sessions"
@jmolsberg,

Never heard of the Microzotl?

How is the Bettye Lavette? I've had it in my cart for a couple of weeks..

……………………………
Jackson Browne "The Pretender" MFSL / SQ=!!! !!!=Wonderful!
@boxer12

Congrats on the new cart. That one should sound pretty sweet. Mine seems to be settling in nicely as well.

I played side 3 and 4 of the Simon and Garfunkel Bridge One Step tonight on the new table. That record is so stupid good that I wound up playing The Only Living Boy in NY 4 times. It is so incredibly great in every possible way.
Elton John - Madman  - reissue
Donald Fagen - Nightfly - MFSL One Step - the low end is just awesome and the whole record is so balanced.
@slaw you are in for a treat when What's Going On arrives.
@boxer do you have a Clearaudio TT too?

Neil Young - Harvest  - likely my favorite Neil but jeez Man Needs a Maid is one of the worst songs of all time
@jmolsberg,

Did a quick look from the link you provided. Wow! It seems like it will be a giant killer from a well respected designer. The price of admission is an added benefit. Look forward to your impressions. What are you running for your phono stage?
……………..

@6t5-gt0,

You need to get Neil Young "Harvest Moon"....the latest dbl/lp.

Such a superb recording! I own the original EU. This latest blows it away.
^ I am very pleased with the LTA. When I want a candlelight lstening, I use it's one watt to drive my 98db Omega speakers. Phono pre is Herron VTPH-2A
Very interesting and enlightening.

You picked it up Tuesday and already have new tubes coming?
Regarding the Richard Thompson lp…. I haven't listened to it in years because I thought the sonics suffered. Now, years later, it really is sounding very good. I guess I must have done something right in the mean time?
Low / The curtain falls on the cast

slaw & 6t5gto,
I made the turntable. It's a labor of love.The platter is 4" thick solid aluminum & the plinth is 2". Both are powder coated then dampened on both sides. The platter is topped with a 1/4 delrin "mat" that is solidly bolted to it. Flywheel, motor, & arm peds are not attached to the platter or plinth. They are made out of aluminum, brass, & ceramic. The bearings are modified aerospace parts with the "X" &"Y" portions separated from each other. They are made out of aluminum with a thin layer of hard coat applied to the surfaces that make contact with each other. I've been playing around with it for a few years now, making modifications etc. It sounds wonderful in it's current state. BTW I'm digging the Clearaudio MM cartridge, although it is far from broke in. Sorry for rambling.
