For me its the first or very early LP's of: Allman Brothers - "Allman Joys" "Idyllwild South" Santana - "Santana" 200 g reissue Emerson Lake and Palmer - "Emerson Lake and Palmer" and, Beethoven - "Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major" Rudolph Serkin/Ozawa/BSO
Tom, i eventually moved on from the Qb into KEF 104 ab kits and then..... I always regret not keeping them as i put a lot of work into minimum baffle cabinets, etc...aside from the EMIT the Phillips doped mid was pretty good, the DQ-10 used essentially same.
@slaw I take it you are talking about Message in a Box, the Police box set? Is it worth it? I have multiple copies of everything but still considered buying it.
Mine is "Every Move You Make/The Studio Recordings" 2018/1/2 speed re-mastered @ Abbey Road.
I already owned all but the 1st lp and multiple copies of others’ USA pressings, most are either barcoded or record club pressings.
Given that and IMO, I hear these records presented in a more analog sounding and consistent way than ever before. To some, the difference may not be as noticeable or worth it. Another plus for me is having them specially re-mastered, all together in the box that I’ll know will never be done better in my life time.
By box set pricing standards, even w/ 15% off, this one is a little high for 6 records. But, The Police are such a transformative band that changed the landscape of rock. They have not since been copied and probably never will.
@slaw that is the one I was thinking, Message in a Box was the old one that I had on digital version. I see if for $169 and may just do it, I love them and saw them in '83 at the height of their career
Counting Crows - August and Everything After - AP 45rpm 200g - this album has stood the test of time
@tomic601 that is awesome, I saw them in Austin at an outdoor venue, 60K people, and did well to position myself about 30 feet directly in front of center stage before the first band (Joe King Carrasco) came on, perfect spot, except I really had to pee but I didn't want to give up my killer spot. By the time UB40 and the Police finished their sets I was pretty much numb from the waist down. But they were awesome. Saw Sting at the same venue much later, maybe '95 or so.
Starts out under gain and tentative but halfway into first song balance and interplay correct - a fine fine recording and performance. 45 rpm on Groovenote
