Fairground Attraction - The First of a Million Kisses

Streaming now into Campfire IEMs. What a nice little album. I like the instrumentation and the open “hear the room” recording. Eddi’s vocals are recorded a little dry I think but she’s very expressive in a very appealing way. Great to learn about this record.

Thanks dudes.

No problem with that Joel. An established relationship with a dealer is Big!

Steve, I have a 40+ year relationship with the owner of Upscale Audio.  He provides me with very substantial discounts so I really try to stick with the brands that he carries.  I believe that Feickert Analog is the best of his turntable assortment, at least, for me it is.  Speakers, however, are just a bit more personal.  Focal at a substantial discount from Upscale or seek out what most pleases me.  That's why I am flying to Daedalus Audio this week.  I think they will meet my expectations.  If so, I will place my order.  They are build-to-order and have a lead time of about 4 months.  Plus the new turntable setup and I am broke for all of 2022😂

Me too;I feel comfortable in saying I love a great deal and have no problem supporting it in the way that I can afford best

Aways buy vinyl though.

i think it safe to say, each of us would LOVE a Hyperion….i am waiting for the killer  % off deal you scored Steve !

Lyra will look at Delos no charge IF it’s not wornout. Fingers crossed, mine it still sounding great !

Sorry Steve, record comment meant as compliment to your skill !

I am not a great robot….yet…. what do you expect with three brain cells ?

Joel,

I can highly recommend the Sussurro, Buying into SoundSmith is an investment.

Steve, no, my Aretha's Gold is not the MFSL.  It's an Atlantic reissue.  I would have bought the MFSL issue if I could have found it.

And yes, I am still listening to the "possibly still defective Delos".  I have numerous SQ issues from my analog front end and I believe it's the Delos.  Though, it could be the Chinook phono stage.  I tend to believe it's the Delos.  I'm just living with it until I make a change.  I am likely to be replacing my turntable and cartridge so it's then that I will learn the answer.  My shortest of short list is a Feickert Analog Blackbird table with a Kuzma 4-Point 11 tonearm and a Soundsmith Sussurro Mkii ES or possibly the Paua Mkii ES.  It's a big budget change for me so I must plan very carefully.  Decision within about 2 weeks.

Richard is playing solo acoustic in March at the Belly Up, Solana Beach…not a terrible seat in the 300 person venue… We caught him there…. circa 2019 late ?

Jethro Tull - Aqualung (Steven Wilson remix - so much better than the original)

+1, agree, high end SQ over the original—“My God”, OMG! 🎶

the 13 Rivers LP to Steve was a bit of an experiment….i was disappointed in pressing quality but figured IF anyone could rescue it with US and Steam cleaning, it would be @slaw !

IMO, this test pressing of Lu, sounds great. I miss the visual of her perform, however

You gotta get "Bring The Family" !

Will look for it. Hiatt is another I’ve only had on CD and cassette (and don’t have that on either), so, it’s kinda ‘his turn’ to get some of his releases on vinyl.

Thanks

Hey Brian,

You gotta get "Bring The Family"  !

Mine is the MFSL. Any version will sound great though.

@slaw

I guess it depends on what era of Thompson one is referring to, right?

I still Love, Pour Down Like Silver.

As do I Steve. Certainly not taking away from Richard’s earlier releases, I have many, and Fairport. But maybe it’s (me) getting older, and having much respect from a musician like Richard seemingly getting better with age. I got the Hiatt Eclipse album recently, and think that may be my favorite Hiatt release I have right now too. I do have Mystic Pinball on its way though…

We, unfortunately, cannot say the same about many musicians as they grow older, except in ‘classical’ music, where I find ‘better with age’ many times the norm.

Brian, Just on first listen, I was very impressed with the consistent quality songs and the SQ, which is great. The downside: side one has audible surface noise that dissipates, and other noticeable noise throughout side one.

Aw man, that is a shame. Overall, that album may be my favorite Thompson effort thus far. I really like it.

I just got in a sealed copy as well. Will clean and compare

Joel, You talkin’ about the MFSL Aretha’’s Gold?  Sounds fantastic to me.

The Crosby lp isn’t tilted up IMO. Still listening to the possibly defective Delos?

Aretha Franklin   "Aretha's Gold"  Excellent music, but rather poor SQ on this album.  Too bad...

The Allman Brothers Band  "Brothers and Sisters"  From my newly acquired treasure trove.  Cleaned up very well, sounds rather good.  Killer album!

David Crosby  "If I Could Only Remember My Name"  As stated earlier, a bit tilted up in the SQ, but a very deep and wide overall quality.  Quite enjoyable.

I have been buying so many new albums that I have been missing others. I have been listening/cleaning some of my past records over the last two weekends. Some needed more help than I initially gave them. Now on to some newly acquired stuff....
