Wadia dead?

Wadia Dead? ... I called the contact number on the website and the person I was directed to led me to believe that they are basically done ... I know there are no more dealers listed on their website ... I remember calling a few years ago and they told me they only did online sales at the time.The company looks alive and well to me based on its website. It also lists its dealers, including one near me and several online dealers, too. |
Well I know my LD is a Mac dealer and they do not have Wadia. I put in my zip code in Wadia's website and there is not a dealer in the Denver area. I used a New York zip code and got 2 dealers. I just got off the phone with one of the New York dealers listed and the first thing that came out of his mouth when I asked about Wadia was "Are they still around?". After a brief discussion we both agreed Wadia is either dead or in some form of suspended state. Product is obviously still trickling out through various channels but I will stick to my assumptions that they are done for now. |
jbhul, The Wadia that you are looking for is produced by the McIntosh Group. I believe that most often repairs etc. for the newer A/D series are done by a subsidiary of Audio Research which is also owned by the McIntosh Group. https://audioresearch.com/contact/ Rogue audio class D amp or Hybrid works great with Wadia products. http://www.rogueaudio.com/Products_Medusa.htm To expand on Nobles response... Back Story: Wadia was bought out by a hedge fund from Italy called Quadrivio. Quadrivio at that time their biggest investment was in frozen foods. They formulated a company called Fine Sounds and went on a buying spree. Under the Fine Sounds banner they absorbed Sonus Faber, Sumiko, REL, Wadia, Wolf, Audio Research, and finally McIntosh. McIntosh then partnered with a French hedge fund and bank, LBO and Yarpa. They bought Fine Sounds from Quadrivio and re branded as The McIntosh Group. When Wadia was absorbed into The McIntosh Group production was moved to where it is today, and I believe that none of the original team / infrastructure survived. The McIntosh Group re branded Wadia with the A/D product series. The A/D product series is completely different from the original classic line. Although they are listed on the website - The McIntosh Group does not provide any support what so ever for any of the " classic products" produced by Wadia before the take over.
