Turntable setup help needed in Wisconsin

Hi, Folks -

On a whim I purchased a like new 1983 Sonographe SG-3 turntable because I previously had one and enjoyed it. It was part of my first high-end setup which was comprised of Conrad Johnson and Vandersteen components. To this day I'm still running those brands.

Anyway, I'm located in Wisconsin and need some help in setting this table up to get the most from it. Certainly, a new cartridge and perhaps an arm replacement (comes with Sumiko LMT tonearm and SAE AT-1000 MM Cartridge).

Any recommendation of where I can take this for help in Wisconsin?

Thank you!

Brian Walsh, who lives north of Chicago, is a well respected turntable set-up guy. i've known him for over 25 years. it's not Wisconsin, but not too far from you up near Green Bay either.

here is his website.

good luck!

If you are near Milwaukee, the crew at Ultra Fidelis can help you.  Jon is a great guy to know.

Thank you, Mike! A bit of a commute but not out of reach.

Exactly the help I'm looking for!

Thank you, Karl! Ultra Fidelis did cross my mind, and Jon is a Vandersteen dealer too!

Hi,

Mike sent a link to this thread. I'm actually in the Madison area today doing a setup today but can be available this Friday or the week after next. Feel free to call or text me. Happy to help you out.

Brian

Hi, Brian -

Thank you for jumping in here. I'm about a half hour South of Green Bay so if you occasionally go North of N Chicago (Madison, etc.) that's great!

I'll get in touch with you.

Thank you

I go all over. Just got back from doing setups in Connecticut, Pittsburgh, and Cincinnati.

Just place a slab of cheese on the stylus ,crack open a PBR, watch Aaron Rodger’s highlights on YouTube and you’ll be fine.

Or…I spent a few days in Madison last fall just bicycling around and passed by a couple of places that looked like they could help.  One place also sold LPs and I bought one so later I can check the sticker info on the album cover if that isn’t to far for you

University Audio and HiFi Haus are two possibilities in Madison

its not that hard and a good experience.   At least try it yourself.  there are plenty of instructions on line .....

The sixpack approach will get sound, but it's all the the little adjustments that add up.

You would have to search far and wide and still probably wouldn't find 2 pros as qualified and respected as Jon and Brian. You're in a fortunate spot for your needs. Cheers,

Spencer

Thank you for the responses!

Spencer put it well: "You're in a fortunate spot for your needs". Indeed, with these recommendations consider my needs met!

Best,

Randy
