Tom Evans Phono Preamp Repair

The original video has now been posted back up after the takedown by several YT channels. A perfect example of the Streisand effect.

One can hope this will remind manufacturers to take care of their customers, especially when they’re spending well over $20k on their product. Fix the thing for a reasonable fee, and throw in a few dozen plastic standoffs for the customer’s trouble.

If Tom is only building 10 a year, it’ll probably be even less now.  Rare doesn’t necessarily equal good.

@yakbob

Tom will continue selling mainly to Brits and Europeans, who know him better than American audiophiles, especially those "audiophiles" who’ve only been into audio since 2001. Tom’s been around twice that. So, that side of the pond, from the feedback I’ve gotten, aren’t placing much stock in the video. One response was "Americans! Can’t live without tearing someone down online these days."

Tom will continue to sell on that side of the pond for another 20 years, and I doubt he’ll lose business, for the same reason as always: Loyalty. Europeans’ loyalties don’t fade, even after decades, as my British boyfriend reminded me once. Here? People here watch one video and suddenly they resemble the mob chasing Frankenstein (in his eponymous debut movie), even though they’ve never heard one of his units, or know one single thing bout the man, his ethics or his morality. Doesn't stop them from offering an opinion on something they know absolutely nothing about.

As an owner of a Groove and a MicroGroove, I’m wildly enthusiastic about my units, which I’ve owned for 25 years. The sonics matter to me. And his units’ sonic capabilities are fantastic.

That’s a lot of misdirected aggression to unpack. I take no offense, and will try be more clear.

Mend it Mark is from the UK, Tom Evans is from Wales. The copyright strike was by Tom against Matt. I’m not sure how Americans earned a name drop in your rant. Is it because we own the market on frivolous lawsuits?

You are correct that most Americans probably weren’t aware of Tom Evans before the copyright strike and subsequent take-down drama. My point was that Tom would have done better for himself to just let the Mend it Mark video play out and have Mark see an organic drop in views over time. (go look up Streisand effect)

Congratulations on passing the 25 year mark. "Audiophile" quotation mark level unlocked. laugh

I own Tannoys and still love you.

Those words reveal much more about you than they do about the Americans you obviously misunderstand. Still, my best to you.
