thumb drive for source?
I’ve been using USB flash drives for years. The latest iteration is USB 3.0 but not all devices will support that. I can’t say whether they sound any better than CD but I also can’t imagine any reason why they wouldn't. Surely, without any moving parts involved, they must be at a technical, if not any perceptibly sonic advantage. |
I broke down and looked it up. Why do you think that a USB A out drive can plug into a USB B input? Not gonna work w/o a player. Can be done with a $60 add on. But I fear not by you. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BC7BMHY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_sX64FbVY22AB5 |
Hi cd318 thanks. That was my thinking about doing this. I have heard it can be an improvement without all the stuff that goes on from the transport to the dac. My cd transport is a Theta Pearl which is quite old but never had any problems at all. It has that stable platter. But I thought maybe I might get some type of improvement worth going in a different direction for my source. Just thinking outside the box I guess. |
I think Erik was on to something because I put my thumb drive to a cable and into my DAC and nothing.I thought I had remembered a reviewer using thumb drives and thought that would be a great way to maybe to take out a little distortion/jitter by passing my transport. But it looks like i might need to get a computer involved to make a thumb drive work, which I am to lazy to do right now. Thanks for the feedback. |
