@chiefsteward1 subwoofers are pretty simple in that they don't have fancy use cases. All they do is give you ample low-end support for your mains and also help reduce IMD and other distortion parameters of your mains if you high pass the mains. But the most important part is subwoofers are necessary for room null corrections and removal. The above is room dependent and bass is omnidirectional mostly with the long wavelengths. So, you're asking people to give you thoughts about a sub in a room other than your own. Best thing is to check if there is CEA2010 data for the subwoofer as that is the best way to ascertain the sub performance without a room's involvement The SS2 unfortunately isn't present on any database for the requisite parameters. How much are you getting them? |
I have an ss2 subwoofer in a 5.1 home theater configuration consisting of Thiel cs2.3 front speakers, cs1.5 rear speakers, Thiel scs2 center speaker, Anthem mca 50 five channel amplifier and an Anthem avm60 surround sound processor, all this equipment preowned. I can also use the subwoofer and the front speakers in a stereo configuration using my vpi scoutmaster turntable. I used the arc software supplied with the surround sound processor to integrate the subwoofer seamlessly with the remaining Thiel speakers. I have had no problems with any of my Thiel speakers other than one of the cs2.3 speakers which required a substantial rebuild after a few months. I have been using the sub for several years without any problems. |
