I just scored a sweet pair of CS 2.4SE loudspeakers. Anyone else currently or previously owned this model? Owners of the CS 2.4 or CS 2.7 are free to chime in as well. Thiel are excellent w/ both tubed or solid-state gear!
for my own personal curiosity I want to demo both Verity Audio and Magico loudspeakers. I would never "quit" my sweet CS 2.4SE speakers.
I tend to agree that Thiel on the used/demo market, simply, cannot be touched for the price vs performance ratio. Add to these facts that Rob Gillum is holding it down at Thiel KY for our legacy models and it is a no-brainer.
Worth noting; dgarretson (Dave) sells the Clarity Cap OEM parts/supplies for the many cross-overs that fit and upgrade our beloved Thiel loudspeakers. Again, a no-brainer!
Thanks for mentioning this, Jafant. In addition to supplying Thiel with ClarityCaps for the 2.4SE model, just prior to the sale of the company we were working with Thiel on an upgrade to the CS3.7 crossover. I’d be pleased to offer thoughts to anyone interested in exploring that.

Great point Jafant - I just bought some new stabilizer pins (spikes) for my CS 6's from Rob.
Pops or jafant do you thing Rob Gillum still carries spare parts for older Thiels like my CS 1.5s ? I would like to find spikes for them as i broke 2 of them last year.
There are no outriggers for the CS 1.5 just 3 thin spikes that are screwed underneath the speakers. I bent 2 of them last year when i dropped one of the speakers on the floor. Yes i will e-mail Rob, thanks.
Dave it's just that i would like to have one of the bigger legacy Thiels for my future dedicated listening room, i would be using both the 3.7s and 7.2s as my reference speakers. Problem is that 7.2s are very rare on the used market now days. The last time i saw a pair for sale was in 2015. My room size should be around 15x21x10 with serious room treatment.
LOL, I knew you already preferred the 7.2's over the 5i's, what I was going to offer for consideration is something else you've already said you weren't interested in. Perhaps using Thiel's own SS3 subwoofer(s) instead of also getting the 7.2's would be a consideration. You'd get the same benefit of deeper bass, greater dynamic range, with less strain and greater ease. All the while putting less strain on your main amplification, and easier bass integration into your given room. Just a thought. BTW, the amplifier demands (if chosen with an appropriate amount of leeway) isn't really all that much different between these models.
I have to see with the owner if he can lower the price a bit because if we came to an agreement i would have an 11h drive to go pick them up. Luckily i'm equiped with a van.
thieliste - I drove about six hours each way when I picked up my 2.7's. Well worth it in my view, but everyone thought I was crazy. Anyone have tales to tell on lengths they were willing to go to get theirs? I think someone mentioned a shipping nightmare in this thread somewhere....
I traveled 12 hrs one way to pick up my CS 2.4SE speakers last January.
Wonderful trip, met a fellow Audiophile and pleasant gentleman, listened to my speakers prior to taking ownership. IMO, certain gear is not meant to be shipped per parcel. I will travel anywhere in the USA to audition and pick up only the very best gear (as I would not want it shipped/possibly damaged.)
Well i guess this pair was not for me, second offer also not accepted by only 100€. I gave my best offer, i guess i will have to be more patient and wait for another pair to pop out.
I almost bought a pair of CS2.3 but the owner doesn't have the original boxes therefore I'm leary to have them shipped in a different boxes. If I don't like them it's tough to sell without original their original boxes. Did you have a chance to audition 2.3 before buying your 2.4? What's the differences between the two do you know? thx.
I drive from NY to Boston to pick up my first pair of 3.5's for $850, my second and current pair of 3.5's found me in deep New Jersey, but at $350 who am I to kvetch?
For my next upgrade into Thiel I will allocate a 5 hour trip, 10 both ways.
They're worth it. Don't want nuthin' to happen to 'em when and if such an opportunity arises.
PS: I spoke with Rob at Thiel this afternoon regarding the suggestion made by unsound to modify my 3.5's equalizers - I have two - into balanced mono units. While I'm still keen on going there eventually I'm putting the project on the back burner for now.
I hasten to add that he is an absolute gentleman and it's very reassuring that those of us here can continue to have our legacy Thiels serviced. This serves only to make our purchases of them an even better investment - which they are.
Jafant, I'm not sure what you mean by "depth", but if you are referring to extended bass response, well sort of, but not really. The passive radiator for the most part reduced noise from the port. The port is what extends bass, but not without it's own issues.
