I became a fan the moment the song Disciple hit the airwaves. 200 mile round trip to see them in September? Doobie? Or, not Doobie? Count me in.
Yes, time is running out for these original rockers. Saw America about a month ago. They are one original band member away from being a "tribute band". An endangered species to be sure.
Making a 600-mile round trip to see Ambrose next month. 3 out of the 4 original members remain. In 1975, Ambrosia’s first album was a masterpiece (in my view). Texture, rhythm, creativity, beautiful vocals, the occasional unexpected and, yes, fun. I also sold lots of speakers using that 60-second transition from Nice,Nice,Very Nice to the intro of Time Waits for No One. Crank the volume up to 8.5 ... the winding of the clock ... then B-O-O-M!! Made it a no-brainer to buy bigger/better stuff that played L-O-U-D!! It’s a long-overdue "Thank You" from me to the band.
A little music trivia: Alan Parsons produced the first Ambrosia album. And all the original Ambrosia musicians played on the Alan Parsons Project album.
The big question for the Doobie Brothers concert? Who do we want invite, and sit with for 4 hours in the car on the way up and back?
