The Truth About Power Cords and there "Real" Price to Performance

This is a journey through real life experiences from you to everyone that cares to educate themselves. I must admit that I was not a believer in power cords and how they affect sound in your system. I from the camp that believed that the speaker provided 75% of the sound signature then your source then components but never the power cord. Until that magic day I along with another highly acclaimed AudioGoner who I will keep anatomist ran through a few cables in quite a few different systems and was "WOWED" at what I heard. That being said cable I know that I am not the only believer and that is why there are so many power cord/cable companies out there that range from $50 to 20-30 thousand dollars and above. So I like most of you have to scratch my head and ask where do I begin what brand and product and what should i really pay for it?

The purpose of this discussion to get some honest feed back on Price to Performance from you the end user to us here in the community.

Please fire away!

I’m sick of hearing this back and forth perpetual argument. I want to abolish it. I just offered anyone lets do this .. did you see how much interest there was in stopping the argument and getting to the bottom of it. ? Clearly nobody will come from overseas, that never crossed my mind. So you 2 are perfect, you guys dont know me and I will state for the record I dont think I know either of you, but based on moniker I dont know you guys.. So do either of you two have any $1000 plus power cords ? if so , we’ve got a shootout. If not, then you two are Audiogon forum users that can represent the AG Group for this thread. Keep in mind, I am a straight shooter. if something sounds better than my cable I will acknowledge it, furthermore if we become friends while you are here you must maintain an honest opinion even if you think Im a great guy and the other cable sounds better. Now if there is no $1K plus cable you can bring, then I need to know if you each are power cord believers or not, if you are , then come over any ways and we can listen to 3D Holographic imaging. Its a good reference point from which to judge other rigs, and its always fun for me to experience it in other peoples rigs because it is elusive. If you dont know what you think or better yet are a non believer that is OK with being converted to believer (if its truly heard) then come on over and Ill prove power cords work an a big way. There are some folks not willing to be converted , and that bias makes a closed mind, so its futile at that point. Every Friday is HiFi Fridays around here. I am in Smyrna by the new Battery Park if you google my username or just go to my username.com youll find my phone number to call and chat.. ame.com youll find my phone number to call and chat..

atdavid432 posts11-18-2019 11:23amI am there for work every 8 weeks approximately, but no guarantees on a Friday. I am certainly in. I don’t think it matters if me or Dimora is a believer or not, as long as you are. If you can pick your cables out blind (or between a basic shielded cable and yours) then you have proved they make a difference.

I have a strong suspicion this exercise will go nowhere. No such meeting will ever happen. Prove me wrong.
I firmly believe that pleasure should be the primary factor in deciding how lovers of pure sound reproduction should spend their money...

Oh look, a person who doesn't understand the concept quoting another person who doesn't understand the concept. I feel so much more enlightened now .... like at least 10lbs.

I was indeed expecting for you to say this about me (nothing new, the same arrogant, condescending, know-it-all behavior to be expected from you), but putting Micheal Lavorgna in the same meter? Really?

Here is another one if so inclined:

There are many different ways to skin a chicken, no?

I am beginning to question the very concept of the ABX test. Is it a real thing?

Before you get upset and slam your keyboard (yes, I am talking to you the mighty keyboard-warrior), this is just a joke, but a tongue-in-chick joke nonetheless...

Isn't the "ABX test" something that the "slayers of snake oil" throw in your face every time someone shares his / her experience of anything in audio making a difference? More often than not, without even doing any such tests themselves.

It's beginning to look like it. To the point of me starting to detest is, as only those guys use it, in every audio forum they can find.

You own speakers, correct? How did you buy your speakers? Did you go to a dealer and asked them to do a quick ABX test for you? Provided that same dealer had all the speakers you wanted to test, AND, the dealer was willing to let you do a "scientifically controlled" ABX test (good luck with that).

Or did you order twenty speakers for deliver in your home, did the ABX test in all of them, then you returned the nineteen losing ones?

I am really curious to find out how you selected your current speakers (provided that you own speakers that is of course).

Thank you

blumartini OP120 posts11-26-2019 11:12amOk all,

Question? In your humble opinion, what is the best Power Cord and what do you like about them from prices that range:

$50-$100
$200-300
$400-500
$600-$1000

The unfortunate situation is that once the cable hater crowd has already polluted an audio thread, it will be tough to get anybody chime in with recommendations on what you ask for. How can they? Do they like to be ridiculed by recommending anything other than stock power cords? I don't. But maybe someone is brave enough to step forward...

>>>>You’re too late. Someone already stepped forward. 🚶🏻
Not what he asked
So a double blind test is better than a single blind test? How about a blind test with just one eye open? Does it count as blind test? What if it’s sighted test but you really squint very hard to the point you are kinda unsighted and everything is very blurry? It should count as unsighted I believe. Or single blind. Basically if both eyes are closed, it double blind, if one eye is closed is single blind. And if you are squinting is 1/2 blind.

Another scenario is like when you cheat a little bit. Like you move the black clothe just a little that you can glance. How is that called?
Who in the right mind would spend $40,000 (forty thousand american dollars) on a power cord?

Let's answer this question first, then the rest of your question
