The Good Stuff

There are simply two kinds of music, good music and the other kind ... the only yardstick by which the result should be judged is simply that of how it sounds. If it sounds good it's successful; if it doesn't it has failed. --  Duke Ellington

This purpose of this thread is to provide a place to post outstanding examples of the Good Music.

some artists, choose to not mix their art with politics; not in an obvious way, anyway.

Mingus was very radical and outspoken, as long as he was in NYC.  Below the Mason-Dixon, not so much.

I suppose that it could be argued that a protest is not much of a protest if it is not in plain “view”. However, some, including some artists, choose to not mix their art with politics; not in an obvious way, anyway.

Great record, btw.

MONEY JUNGLE

Blue Note  1962 / 1987

Duke Ellington(piano), Charlie Mingus(bass), Max Roach(drums)

Notes: "The title tune is "Money Jungle."  This sounds like a title that might have been thought of by the protest conscious Mingus or Roach.  But no, as all the tunes here, it is a product of the Ellington imagination."

The first multi-disc box set I ever purchased.  From a classical record shop in Nuremberg, Germany.  If you thought you might like a record, you could play it on the house turntable to be sure!!  The clerk assured me my copy had not been 'tried out'.

Outstanding packaging.  A collectors item, even in the age of digital.

That is normal for those who don’t have German .

Every piece he wrote had written said " Glory to God" or the like,

No German how would you know ?

Nearly all that that that was sung was about Jesus .

One piece that the above was written by Matin Luther, got to me .!

You can buy English paper on almost all Bach . Handel is great, Bach is the

Ultimate .

@jim5559

I like Bach.  Have a lot of music on CD by him.  But I must confess, I never think about God while listening to his music.  From the wrong church I guess.  I only think of God when listening to Messiah.
