There is nothing I love better than to spend an evening listing to my wonderful collection of music. The specs make such a huge difference.

Breakthrough or not, they are fantastic drivers!

They do seem measure better than the majority of the similarly priced competition.

A friend of mine has them in a pair of kits from Meniscus Audio Group, called "Virage", designed by the highly respected Paul Carmody. They are paired with the equally impressive SB Acoustic, ring radiating, Satori tweeter.

The midrange clarity is pretty impressive, as is the complete disappearing act the speaker does. They create an impressively deep and wide soundstage, with plenty of layering.

The kits are about $1300. The enclosures are not very complicated to build, even if one wants to use some sort of constrained layer damping.

So, for substantially less than $2000, the resulting speaker would compete sonically with a speaker at at least 3 times the price.

Virage Kit

They do seem to measure with exceptionally low distortion.  Not sure if I'd hear it myself compared to existing excellent mid-woofers in the same size:

I have been using Purifi drivers for over 2 years they are very special. Great midrange clarity and they are a seamless blend with my ViaWave ribbon tweeters. Tom

Fostex had a hyperbolic paraboloidal cone surround etc in 1999 and still does. Purifi is just using something similar it's not a breakthrough at all. That's just marketing it's just a modern driver. More similar to others than different. it's the same basic design that was created in 1926 by Clair L Farrand.
