Hey corelli,
You are still invited to stop by me on your way to the show. Just give me a call if you are interested. |
Corelli, I be there Friday only.....maybe all Agon member should write their moniker on their back jacket... |
I would put more stock in customer testimonials than any reviews. There was a time when customer testimonials meant much more than they do today. Sorry but I am just not buying this Tekton mass hysteria thing, but I will listen to them again at Axpona in a few weeks.
I truly think it is great that there are so many apparent happy customers but I have a hard time believing that you can get blood out of a stone as some claim. When I look at Tektons speakers I see too many design aspects that I find objectionable regardless of price.

jsautter, You definitely need to hear them. If anyone wants to I am actually considering selling mine. I have the Double Impacts in Ferrari Red (with the $300 dollar upgrade Pckg) Ialso have the large Center channel four of the 6 inch drivers (same ones in the Double Impacts) in the same color .They all have Grills. If anyone is coming through this way and is interested in auditioning them LMK. I have pics in my profile. I am in Knoxville TN. The amps in the pics are not the Granite Audio. See the listing for those pics. I never updated the pics from the MC30s I am not selling because i do not like them . It is because of Financial reasons. I also have the McIntosh MX151 and the fantastic Granite Audio 864SR Monoblock tube amps. I have many, many extra tubes that will go with the sale of the amps The amps are listed here on Audiogon as well as Usaudiomart. I only have the amps listed for now , because i thought that they would be the easiest to sell .. Not sure though. I will consider selling any or all. You must hear these speakers and this setup. I was going to keep for a very long time , but I may not be able to Financially. If you or anyone has interest in hearing or seeing any of it LMK send me a PM |
@teajay Thanks for the very kind offer teajay. Sorry I didn't see your post earlier--been a bit busy. I plan on coming in early Saturday for AXPONA and leaving Sunday. I'll be traveling with my wife so let me talk it over and get back to you. Thanks! |
Good evening fellow Tekton fans! A note to alert anyone in Southern California that I am going to soon be putting my much beloved Tekton Double Impact SE's in high gloss black on the market. As anyone who has had a pair delivered, they do not travel well, so local is probably best for private sale. They are in mint condition! I have moved my gear into a larger space so I am moving up the Tekton line to match the room. Message me if you wish to see and audition. Cheers, and happy listening!
|
And by the way, has anyone reading spent time on the Tekton website as of late and seen the discounted prices?!?! I question the decision on several levels. |
The pricing reflects the forward motion of Eric’s business model and his maturing product line / cost structure. In my opinion, this is normal and ultimately beneficial to those purchasing his speakers. Trickle down and reduced costs for fantastic sound performance...I’ll take that!
He is also smart to price and list his products in the basic finishes first. For example, this reflects a $1K discount on his SE model. 4.5K looks much more attractive (perceptually) than 5.5K, for the lovely automotive paint finishes.

Wondered how on earth the DI SE could have jumped to $6500/pr over the standard DI’s $3000/pr after just switching to a couple of different driver types and new crossover components (except for the proposed notion that this newer model could be sold non-direct and hence required a higher profit margin) - Well, the price of the SE has recently dropped to a more “realistic” price of $4500, so that’s a good thing, but not exactly thrilling to a friend of mine who paid $6500 for these within the last year - He’s contemplating selling the pair and stands to lose a fair amount in the process - Any other SE owners taken aback by such a sudden plunge in price? |
ggeers222, Obviously yours truly is in that boat and also prepping to sell my DI SE's. I was all but certain that I was going to move up in the Tekton line, but this de-valuing decision by Eric has given me pause.
David, I am not certain that I agree with your take on why he has decided to offer the middle finger to those who have been loyal to his gear, and aided to his success by offering their opinion on forums such as this one. I surmise that the "hype" around the brand has subsided, and he is sitting on too much inventory with too many variations. I am not arguing that the speakers punch far above their weight(respective to price) and sound great comparatively, but how many times have you seen significant price reductions(if at all) in new audio gear, bespoke or big-name alike?!?!
|
I also am one who purchased the SE, thinking to myself, I want to get “the best version of Erik’s wares” that my limited budget would allow.
This “sudden,” drastic devaluation on my investment is a real gut punch.
Oh well...I’m still very happy with the sound quality I am hearing from my SEs, I simply “wish” they were worth more than they are on the outside.

Please understand, I'm also in the same position. I'll likely be listing my SEs and moving up the Tekton line or to another speaker brand, the Horning Hybrid Eufrodite Ellipses Mk3 being at the top of my list as an alternative.
I would have loved to have had the price remain steady at 6.5K but in this case, that's the way the apple has rolled.
The Double Impact BEs have taken the product position that the SEs formerly occupied.
@laaudionut Please delete the section of your post that addresses me inaccurately, since it clearly (due to grammar) implies I have 'your "finger" take' on this. Feel free to reword it to reflect your position [Not mine]. I'm fine with your position on this, so it's not about that. Thanks and all the best with your listings!!!
|
@david_ten, apologies, as I cannot edit the post due to elapsed time. I will state to the forum that my, "middle finger" reference in my earlier post was my own opinion and that of no other's.

I have a different thought about the pricing issue....and I fully admit that it is probably incorrect.
When you think about it, there are at least 50+ successful loudspeaker companies...which basically says that there are lots of different tastes in what sounds good/right. And you don't have to look very hard to see that every year, new players are entering the market, creating more competition and selling loudspeakers....and current players are responding by offering new models and various improvements and technology.
In many ways, it reminds me of the guys making/selling cars....in order to remain visible, you need to be creating buzz. And creating buzz usually means either of two things....new product or lower price.
Obviously, a smaller guy like Tekton does not influence a market in the same way as a bigger player like KEF....but on the other hand, the smaller player has to find a way to keep their momentum moving forward when competing with a powerhouse like KEF...or B&W..(fill in name here).

@laaudionut Thank You! Much Appreciated. |
I applaud Eric from Tekton, for all his hard work and making great sound affordable for all of us in this hobby! |
I too am sad that the value of my DI SE has dropped. This will delay or stop me from moving up the Tekton line. Maybe these DI SE’s are just keepers for life because they do sound good but you know, when that upgrade itch starts. |
I am contemplating the Ulfberhts, can get them for 4.5k after trading in Aria 948 from a local dealer. Hrmmm. |
Also I am eager to see the first review of the Ulfberht Be! |
FYI Tekton Design Moab is listed as up for review by Terry London at 6Moons. |
The price change on the DI SE's was really not a surprise given the ever expanding Tekton line. In particular, the Encores forced the lower price on the SE's.
I hope SE owners don't become too troubled by this. Let's face it, we all have been spoiled by the great value these speakers offer. That, for sure, has not changed.
Nice to see a flurry of posts on our long in the tooth thread!
|
Oh boy. The Moab may further shake things up. I love the idea of all those tweeters. I love the price. But my back beckons me to think over the 185#! |
I honestly believe Tekton had the Double Impact SE priced wrong to begin with.. It appeared to be too big of a jump in price from the Double Impact.. I wanted the DI’s but wasn’t very excited to buy them, I just wanted something with a little more Uniqueness to them.. Wham , came the SE’s , but just too pricey for me..! When I called to make a purchase, Eric offered to sell me a set of SE’s at $4,500.. I was floored, and couldn’t say No.. The day after I ordered my SE’s the price drop went up on the Tekton site.. I felt guilty, and somewhat disappointed for the unfortunate ones who had purchased before me.. Tekton’s price structure is a bit abnormal, and most likely could use a total “start from scratch” revamping.. But we all know Eric is allowing us to have a taste of the Very High End HI-FI , at affordable prices.. I go to Eric for his speaker design skills, not his marketing skills..! For a one man shop, it can’t be easy to “Everything” yourself, even with Karma’s help..
|
I’m still enjoying my SE’s after a year and a half now and while their price decrease affects all of us early buyers that’s the way the cookie crumbles.
The SE’s have motivated me to upgrade my system to get the most they have to offer. My latest two upgrades have been monumental in doing just that.
First was the Perfect Path the Gate.....the way this product cleans up the electrical signal brought my system to life and has the SE’s singing better than ever. Kudos to Tim at PPT!
Second was having Aric Audio build me a pair of no holds barred 300B SET monoblocks with two external, tube regulated power supplies. I’ve only had them in my system since yesterday but haven’t stopped smiling since. With C3M driver tubes, Hashimoto output and power transformers, Duelund coupling caps, silver internal wiring, WBT Nextgen binding posts and rca jacks, Yamamoto tube sockets and copper shielding within the chassis along with other goodies I can’t remember Aric went all out in creating amps that will last me a lifetime. When properly designed and implemented the 300B can produce levels of power, dynamics, purity and transparency that drive the SE’s beautifully. Kudos to Aric!
I feel blessed having the likes of Eric, Tim and Aric providing products that bring about so much musical enjoyment at prices I can afford.

What would be the minimum room size for the DIs vs the Impact monitors or Pendragons? My room is 14x16 with 9 foot ceilings, glass French doors on one wall opens to a much larger room. Thanks |
The Tekton Design Double Impacts will work in your room. Those who have the Impact Monitors / Pendragons are in a much better position to advise with respect to those two speakers and room size...however, I believe all will work fine with your room. |
@shadys My room is about the same. The double impacts and the Encores both worked exceptionally well in my room. |
Just giving kudos to whoever suggested setting up the Double Impacts so the alignment of the speaker cones crossed about 1 foot in front of the listening position. So far I have owned the DIs for over a year and have no plans to replace them. The more I fine tune my system...the better appreciation I have for the capabilities of the DIs. I kept my prior speakers for 11 years until I got the DIs so these will probably be my last speaker.
|
@mac48025 +1 on your statement: The SE’s have motivated me to upgrade my system to get the most they have to offer. I would not be where I am system enjoyment wise without the DIs and SEs over the past two years. Thanks for your help and guidance along the way. +1 @gaal The more I fine tune my system...the better appreciation I have for the capabilities of the DIs. |
Has anyone noticed that the Double Impact SE is no longer listed on Tekton's web sight? |
Not surprising or unexpected once the Double Impact BE was released. |
Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see the Double Impact BE listed either. |
It’s listed in the Double Impact page as an upgrade option. |
Does anyone here know what are the differences between the SEs and the BEs?
Thanks, tim. |
@timwelborn
Primarily beryllium tweeters |
Thanks @lpretiring.
Has as anyone heard the two products A <> B? |
Tekton Design / Eric Alexander has started posting YouTube Videos of his speakers, etc. Take a look/listen on the Tekton Design website. |
just heard em yesterday NOT impressed in the least |
wrat, this is the second forum you have posted the exact same negative comment on, suspicious. |
nah whats suspicious is all the hyperbole surrounding this brand and the lack of posted specs as well as the DRASTIC misrepresent ion of efficiency as showed by the review in a certain magazine |
@wrat which mag. I would like to see measurements. |
@timwelborn Which specific speaker, for the comparison of the BE vs standard tweeters? I have heard both versions of the Ulfberths. Should you be interested in differences between the standard and BE version of the Ulfberths, PM me. |
Would be curious if anyone has a chance to listen to the Moabs. This seems like another extremely high value offering. It offers what I assume is a simpler crossover which might offer some advantages. It's weight is not as high as what I originally thought but it does visually dwarf the DI on Eric's video. Will look for the pending review that david_ten noted.
Looks like someone started a Moab thread which was removed--no doubt due to the likes of __________.
|
Hey Tom,
Just talked to Eric this week and the review pair of the Moab Speakers should be ready to ship by the end of next week. I'm looking forward to it and my reviews for Six Moon are posted almost immediately when I send them to Srajan. So, I'm ready to hear Eric's latest creation and write the review! |
Looking forward to it teajay. No one is in a better position to comment on how this compares to Tektons other models. |
Hi. @david_ten !
Actually, my question should have been, "Has as anyone heard the Double Impact SE vs Double Impact BE?"
to all,
I saw, on the current Double Impact page of the Tekton site, where addition of the Beryllium Tweeters was a +$3500 option.
If I were interested in upgrading my DI SEs... Is the difference in sound quality, the Beryllium Tweeters add, REALLY worth $3500?
Thanks to All for all the advice You have contributed to this thread.
tim. |
Hi Tim. This goes back 6 months, so things may have changed. I was very keen on upgrading my SE speaker tweeter array to a BE array, after hearing the Ulfberth BEs. At that time, Eric said it wasn’t possible (SE specific). You may want to check with him. Plus, he should be in the best position to describe the differences between the standard and BE tweeter array.
Let us know what you find out! |
Wow! Finally got to the end of this thread. Started reading in October. Ordered the DI’s on New Year’s Eve and they arrived about one month later. Grills came another month later-no biggie as I think they sound much better without.
In the meantime I’ve upgraded to a parasound hint6 from a zamp. Huge improvement there. Also went from 14ga bare wire to audio quest type 8. Mostly stream Qobuz and cds on a 20 yo Sony 5 disc changer.
I am in heaven with this system. Wish I would have gotten into this game 20 years ago but I settled on a pair of Cerwin Vega 3ways ran with a pioneer avr. I always knew I was missing something and now I know. i appreciate everyone’s knowledge and opinions on here. Thank you! |
@robt22 Not sure on what I should congratulate you on first--the new DI’s or reading the entire thread! One of these days maybe I’ll read the whole thing--I’m sure it would bring many smiles. It has been a fun journey shared with a great group of individuals. As you are finding out, the DI’s are very transparent and they readily reveal the gear you place upstream. My DI’s sounded good right out of a very cold box, and they just keep getting better as you tweak your system and room. So I encourage you to experiment with these variables and am sure your speakers will bring you years of enjoyment. Glad this thread was helpful!
|
Room tweaks seem to be very intimidating to me. I have a decent size room but to the left of the left speaker is perpendicular to a hallway and parallel to an open stairwell. The wall running parallel along the right speaker has a large window and then a double glass door. Also a large window on the back wall. Figured I’d start with curtains but there really is a big void in the front to the left of the left speaker. I also feel a couple subs or 4 are in order and would love to hear some tubes with these speakers after all the rave reviews. I have never listened to a tube component so will probably get one with a generous return plan in case I can’t live with it. Mostly listen to rock/pop/dance however every type of music I’ve played on the DI’s sound special.
