@jtcf Thanks I will be very interested in what you hear.
Tekton Design's new THE PERFECT SET equals "goosebumps time"
Just got in house for review for hometheaterreview.com Tekton Design’s new, The Perfect SET, which is close to 100dB efficient and never dips below 8 ohms, which Eric built to be used with SET "flea watt" amplifiers. It is a front ported design using a 12 inch woofer and his patented array of small transducers that function as a midrange driver with a single tweeter in the middle. I set them up in a system with a great 2A3 SET amplifier and found them so superlative I did not stop listening for over five hours! Taking about "goosebump time" the music was so beautiful that
I lost track of time.
These speakers have all the virtues of the other Tekton speakers, speed, utter transparency/micro-details, great soundstaging, and that special "aliveness" that I experience when I listen to my Ulf’s. What really amazed me was what the Perfect SET was delivering on the bottom end frequencies, subterrainian/taut powerful bass, that was shaking the room, all coming from at most 2.5 to 3 watts.
If you love SET amplifiers this speaker is a match made in heaven, and remember this pair just arrived and is not totally burnt in yet.

@listener111 to answer your question I ended up with the monitors because I was worried about wrestling around heavier speakers and having to ship them back if I didn't like them.Ha,ha,ha,ha!!I love them and they aren't going anywhere:)In hindsight a floorstander would have been easier to position with no stands to fuss with. @dbass in my LTA I'm just starting to experiment with tube rolling.Last week I dropped in Sylvania AT7GTA black plates and am very pleased. The sound remains clean and clear but the musicians are more palpable now. There's more *meat on the bones*.Next up I'll try something new for the output tubes.I'll keep you posted with the good/bad results. |

@teajay THANK YOU!! Your passion, knowledge, and willingness to share has been instrumental in my ability to figure out what to do with a new system purchase. You made me aware of both LTA and Aric Audio whom I will be buying one of their integrated/amps (MZ3 vs 300B SET). You answered my key questions on PS including their ability to sound great at low volumes and that the PS can be driven very well by the MZ2. So now the rest is on me - which sonic flavor do I want MZ3 or 300b? I am just not ready to spend the money for the MZ3 to drive the 300B amp. 1 question - do you have any tube recommendations for the MZ2/3? And has tube rolling made a difference? I wonder if there is a way to get more meat on the bones if I decide to use the MZ3 as an integrated amp with the Perfect SET speakers. Again thank you very much and please continue the great service you provide to our community. |

Hey corelli, I have the pair of PS pulled out at least four feet off the front wall. Because it's ports are on the front baffle you could place it closer to the front wall without screwing up the bottom end. However, to create the best soundstaging, the more space the better. Very slight toe-in, with the speaker just slightly aimed outside my ears. |

teejay I am loving my LTA MZ2, LTA Ultralinear and Tekton DIs. Today, I set all of the the DI driver screws to the same torque (Wheeler FAT Wrench) and must say it made a significant difference. Much thanks for exposing me to a modest cost system that has me emotionally involved with the joy of music. |

Thank you teajay, for quick response, looking forward to your review on sixmoons. I also like the option#2 as it will give me extra money if i want to go to MicroZTOL MZ3 instead of MZ2. One more question, will MicroZTOL MZ2 or MZ3 will be fine driving PSET on its own (as int amp as opposed to use as pre amp and using DAC cherry mono blocks as power amps) ? |
Hey listener111, I will be writing my review for Six Moons.com on the Perfect Set soon and listened today to them for over 5 hours using a Triode Lab SET 2A3 amplifier and a Threshold S/350e amplifier and enjoyed the music immensely with either piece. I believe either the DI, with the ports on the front or the PS would work great in your room. However, if you want a smaller speaker you can't go wrong with the PS. Yes, either speaker has a wider sweet spot then Maggies (I lived with 1.7's and 20's for years). I think you would be very pleased with option #2 |
Hi, I am in the market for the new speakers, my current system consists for QNAP NAS --> Bluesound streamer --> DAC Cherry mono blocks --> 8" Audio nirvana single driver DIY speakers (used to have Usher 6381 - sold them few months back). Room size 20 X 15 X 9 - open in the back to kitchen. Listen to all kinds of Music but mostly Vocals, Jazz and Acoustics and at very moderate volume - Long back used to have Magnepan MMGs and loved it but as I do not have enough space behind the speaker as well as for Maggies sweet spot is very narrow, looking for a new speaker. budget is $3000 Following this thread for long time as well as looking at Tekton DI reviews. sent email to Eric and enquired about DI and SET. Eric mentioned he will change the ports on DI to be in the front as My speakers will be very close to wall (12 to 18 inches behind the speaker) Eric mentioned DI is a better speaker than PSET. As lot of you heard both the speakers, what is your opinion around. Do these speakers have wider sweet spot than Maggies ? Option #1 Tekton DI (those are little bit bigger than what i want) and eventually get MicroZOTL MZ2 Amp Option #2 PSET (12) and eventually get MicroZOTL MZ3 Amp Thank you, |

https://www.audiogon.com/listings/full-range-tekton-design-pendragon-custom-dual-14-woofers-5-000-pi... @yakbob After your comment, I had to find the ad in question. It can be clearly seen in the actual ad, Souljasmooth doesn't say what you claim. As a matter of fact, he states he doesn't like them, but won't go into why. I am not sure where you got what you state, but clearly it is not what is in the ad. |

@mac48025 --- that may depend on how many times you've received forgiveness :) For the time being, I will just have to live vicariously through several of you guys who have been able to take the leap. I do not think I can part with my Encores, which are the best speakers I've ever owned. But I sure would love the hear those SETs and build another, different kind of system around them. Please keep us posted. |
