He means "can you buy just part of the ART system" and still get benefits. Sure. The Bass Station, for example. But the whole, in this case, provides more benefits than the sum of the parts. |
Shellie, I bought the ARTs at the RMAF on hearing their demonstration. I find your question curious and don't exactly know what you mean by "still retaining benefits." However I do have experience in installing them in my room. As I added each component and then further adjusted them to the proper height, to a position closer to my listening position than the first reflection point, and to slightly further toward the front wall on the floor behind my equipment centered between my speakers, I heard great improvements. It probably takes several hours do get this all right. |
Has anyone had experience with the Acoustic ART System? In particular I am wondering if the system can be broken up while still retaining benefits. I am intrigued by this product as acoustics are the last frontier (for now) in my system.
Thanx |
I just wired in another Teslaplex in my system this one for my SVS PB13 Ultra subwoofer. All I can say is "HOLY". The bass after a week substantially ignited into my chest. For movies it is extremely defined, tighter & much louder but also precise to the material. For music it also was louder & defined. The both Teslaplex's in a way seemed to make my whole system more efficient & exceed the soundstage it had before. I am very happy with the Teslaplex again and suggest others to try on they're sub also..You won't believe your ears!!! Well recommended......

I decided to try the SR Tesla accelerator cables, Purist Auquaus Anniversary, Analysis Plus Big Silver Oval and MIT Magnum M1 stuff. I compared them all to a set of Monster Cable M2.2s speaker cables and Z200i IC's (combined price of $620 USD. The Monster cables outperformed all the others by a good margin...who'da thunk it? |
Hey guys and gals, I posted a review of my Powercell 10 SE over on Ozzy's review thread. Please check it out. |
Actually Rydenfan, the Oyaide WCP-Z actually I might try(Recommended by other Audiogoners), a little pricey, but might audition one. In regards to the Teslaplex's, I am running my SVS PB-13Ultra(piano black) on a seperate wall outlet and I was wondering if a Teslaplex would make a difference with LFE.......Anyone???
REGARDS Bacardi |
Ozzy, my thoughts entirely follow what you have said here, save that I had no experience with the PowerCell 10 Standard. My 10SE was good out of the box but much better the second day. Each of the SR power cords also showed a one or two day break in.
I too have unused dedicated circuits.
The 32 amp connector turns to snap into locked position. The lock will be at the top of the plug when locked.
I posted this on your review also. |
I just posted a review of the PowerCell 10 and SE version. It is listed in the Product Reviews under Accs-AC Filter |
Rydenfan, Only the chassis surfaces that first must be CNC cut and machined are coated- before the CNC process. Sadly it is not possible to coat the edges after the CNC process as the coating process is highly involved and must be performed on the sheets themselves which are then hung vertically and dried in a climate stabilized, dust free and emission controlled environment.

Tbg, I do have a hologram on my CDP. And a Hologram A on my integrated amp. I precision AC work best on a power conditioner or a large tube amp. |
Guys, I know the SR states on their site that the material the powercell is made of is resistant to scratches, but be careful!! I was so careful with placing mine in my rack due to the piano finish but mine lightly touched the hinge on my Salamander stand. The chassis itself is not scratched but the side of the faceplate is. Even though it is a small scratch it is a total bummer. So I just wanted to put it out there to the rest of you guys to be extra careful. |
Joeyboynj, I tried a SR Precision on my amp versus the Hologram A, it lost. But wow did it work great on the line stage. I just love the way everything is trial and error. You need to get a Hologram D for your digital. |
My Powercell 10 SE arrives this Wednesday. I'm currently using a Precision AC 15 amp on my power conditioner and it provides plenty of power. |
I received my Powercell 10 SE yesterday and the build quality is absolutely incredible. The high-gloss casing is beautiful. I will report back once I have some hours on it.
I would think the Oyaide wall plate would be a nice upgrade over the standard one. I would assume it at the very least has less resonance.
http://www.oyaide.com/e_audio/audio_products_files/wpc-z2.html |
Ozzy, I have both and just checked. They look to be the same except for the connector. The 32a connector is very nice.
Rydenfan, I also used the plastic wall plate. Maybe at some point I will try some thing else. |
Question: The PowerCell 10 SE comes with the Precision AC power cord that uses a 32Amp connector. Has the wire itself been increased in gauge over the 15 A Precision AC power cord?
I would hope so, but, there is no mention of that on the website desciption nor pictures. |
I actually spoke with Ryan/Elliot about the plate and the suggestion was to just use the regular plastic plate....Mainly, It'll do the job.....If there are other alternatives for better quality, I'm all ears...

For those of you that are using TeslaPlexs, what wall plates are you using with it? Is there a particular plate that SR recommends? |
Bacardi, unplug the wallwart from the PowerCell if you want to quickly heard what the field inside is doing. The blue LED will go out. I never thought of this until talking with SR today. |
Thx Tbg. I have hooked up the Teslaplex outlet and its like someone hit a loudness button on my system with added dynamics. I am more of a movie buff and noticed better clarity in the movies, more volume, bass extension, and the utmost cleanest soundstage. I don't have one connected to my subs power & rca cords on other side of the room, though I might order one to feed them. Definitely a must for a full system set-up. A+++ Ted........

Bacardi, do you have three wires at your outlets or two? If you have three, I believe all of your outlets already have 20 amp outlets regardless of what size fuse there is on the circuit. If you have any real doubt, get an electrician to come out. |
I need to know if I can wire a Teslaplex which is 20 amps into a 15 amp circuit. The house I'm in is old and still has a fuse panel,I know(LOL). Any help......

Rydenfan, I think you are going to be very happy. |
I should be ordering a Powercell 10 SE (32A, Precision AC, etc.) later this week. Once I break it in I will post some impressions of it. |
I have independently talked with Ted and now know that he really means that he does not like ceramic insulators, such as I am using as they resonate. Wood may work best on his cords
Long ago I did extensive tests of maple, walnut, pine, glass, special foam such as used in shipping memory chips, ceramic coffee cups, cardboard, chop sticks, and support on strings. This was with no Synergistic Research cords or cables. I greatly preferred the ceramics. I will be trying the SRs soon with some of the above, but I am from Missouri, so I have to be shown. |
Actually Tbg. I will let you know how my custom made Hifi Pyon NDCL01 Beech wood cable elevators sound when I get them. I had them raised 4" and a bigger profile to hold all my Tesla cords. It will be the proof for all Active S.R cords. I hope they work..LOL

Norm, I am not saying my cable elevator recommendations hold true for all cables, just mine : )
Yours in music, Ted Denney III Lead Designer, Synergistic Research Inc. |
Well, Ted, as much as I like your stuff, I have to disagree about plastic and wood. I have found that only ceramics and even there some more than others, have the neutrality that I value.
I bought some surplus 18KV isolators because they were tall and did not move. Unfortunately, I had to put a small better sounding ceramic isolator on top each. Those that I found best were from Rightway Audio and called Suspenders. Unfortunately, I think they are now out of business.
Norm |
THX Ted. I think this should be addressed to joeyboynj too cuz I asked him in a thread about the Shunyata's and he has them, and he stated they worked well for him.....I will look for wooden elevators to try out....THX again

Bacardi, I have performed extensive listening tests with various cable elevators. Let me first state that when using a non-ferrous and non-dampening cable elevator with my upper end Tesla speaker cables, the improvements are significant.
Cable elevators to avoid are any designs that dampen the resonance of the speaker cable its self (foam material or dampened elevators) and ceramic bell shaped elevators that act as a resonator and impart their own resonance into the speaker cable.
Cable elevators to consider- any elevator made from either wood or Plexiglas. Ideal height would be 4 inches or more.
Benefits: A larger more layered and deeper sound field. Tighter bass with greater control and extension. More air and sense of decay in the soundfield. Less "hi-fi", more "you-are-there".
Easy experiment: When using a standard 8ft length speaker cable take 4 CD jewel cases per cable placing them open on the floor making the letter "V". Now drape your speaker cables atop the CD jewel cases (with CD's removed) being careful to allow the speaker cable to lay the way it wants (when possible) and not force it into position. You should hear the above-mentioned benefits assuming your system and room are up to the task.
I hope this helps.

Bacardi, yes the Shunyata Dark Fields work. Not a huge tweak but a nice one enough for me to keep them. I would have sent them back if they didn't work. This is what I found... music sounds more clear and fluid and without haze. There is a little more background noise eliminated causing more separation of instruments. They also relieved some congestion. |
Sherod, I, of course, have no experience with the PorterPort. My comparison is nowhere near that done by Dlcockrum on the thread above. He has the advantage of quick a/b comparison. Actually, Dave came here some time ago agog with the Tesla outlet. I was already greatly impressed with the SR ARTs. I approached SR about it and the PowerCell.
I put the PowerCell in first and compared it with my IsoClean outlet driving my Acoustic Revive RTP-6. It was no contest. The sound stage was wider and more precise with lower background noise as well as rising vertically? I have never understood this impression, I must say. The bass was well defined and directional, and the top end was sparkling.
Yesterday I replaced an Eagle outlet on my other dedicated line with the Tesla. After five hours it was obviously also contributing to further improvement with the PowerCell. Best Audiophile Voices was "real" last night, but Sinatra & Basie at the Sands ranged from poor at the beginning to pretty good at the end. The SR combo really exposes the quality of the recording.
I suspect that the majority of the improvement is from the PowerCell, but the little outlet is worth it. I am no longer using the IsoClean, the Sound Applications/Jena Labs, or the R1.
I should also note that I expect great improvements today. |
Norm. I'd like to hear about your current opinions on the Teslaplex outlet. I have now and am enjoying the Porter Port(Hubble) outlets and would appreciate another view of these Teslaplex outlets. Thanks. |
Bacardi, see my comments on the Teslaplex at

Thanks joeyboynj for the info. One question. I noticed you have the Dark Field Shunyata cable elevators. Can you notice any difference with them under your cords???? I have an interest in them....Cableco has a sale on them till month end....Please let me know your specs....THX
REGARDS Bacardi |
wow this is a long thread. I'll have to put time aside to read through it all. Looks like a good bit of info in it. |
Thanks for the Tesla Plex info all and Joeyboynj for the review and pics. I am going to order two of them to audition. ONE OTHER QUESTION. Are the QLS 6 & QLS 9 made the same accept for the number of outlets. I might order 2 QLS 6's and return my QLS 9 to get 3 more outlets and a better even, equal spread in the room. I run a full home theater system and need the left & right spread. I am just waiting for my Sistrum SP-1 for underneath my SVS PB-13 Ultra(piano black) to define and resolve my bass issues. THX again all....

Bacardi, go back my post above from 1/08/09. I have a review on the Teslaplex and also a link to a review here on the outlet... |
Bacardi, I am going to install my Tesla duplex after I get accustomed to the Power Cell and the T2s. I just got everything yesterday, so it may be a while. |
Anybody audition or hear the S.R Tesla Plex duplex outlet. I am very concerned with any advantages it might be to a full Tesla set-up (eg.power cords, interconnects, Quattro, QLS 9 to wall). Any info will be of help..THX

There can be discounts available off list, but any of that talk is strictly between you and the dealer. Audiogon (and most other forums I know) strictly forbid that discussion, as does the manufacturer. |
is it possible to get any discount off msrp for the acoustic reference or precision reference speaker cables?
some dealers/companies do it and some don't so was wondering what bargaining I can do?
thanks |
Yes, I installed the some of the first batch of Teslaplexes Eliott had sent out back in September (see my 9-24-08 post on this thread). They are great. Very black background, very wide and deep soundstage. |
You know that all that differs on it is being zapped with a million volts. I have one coming along with a Power Cell and pcs. |
Have anyone installed and tried the Synergistic Teslaplex yet?
I did. Last night and right out of the box, the Teslaplex improved my soundstage, air, clarity and transparency over the Oyiade R1 outlet. Huge improvement! If you have Tesla power cords, I highly suggest you give this outlet a try.
Here is a Teslaplex review here on audiogon: http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?htech&1228107456&openfrom&1&4 |
I have been breakin in a Synergistic Research PowerCell, and I am writing a detailed review to be posted on Audiogon. Suffice it to say that, particularly after enhancing it with an SR Precision Reference into the AC mains, I have been rather impressed by its musical/sonic enhancement to my system. G. |
The Tesla SR cables are an excellent choice for Wilson speakers. I love them with my WP8s. |
I'm running biwire Apex between VAC 300.1 and VSA VR-7SE with great success. As mentioned above, this cable just does everything very well.
Also recently discovered the D-3 digital cable that Ted told me should sell for a lot more than they sell it for. He is correct - in my system it easily bested an Acrolink digital cable costing twice as much. I have an all SR system, with Hologram D pcs on the digital components, so to be fair, I would be pretty surprised if ANY cable could out-perform the D-3 in my application. The synergism is very real and I'm very happy. |
Heykay, We are running Wilson Sophia's at CES in January- where we want to show what our cables can really do. I would not have selected the Wilson's if they did not work exceptionally well with my Tesla cables. The Precision Reference would be my choice over Acoustic Reference unless you are expressly looking for the unique signature of Acoustic Reference.
If you can, take them both out for a test run- that way you'll know for sure.
