Streaming music and movies from tv

I have a nice 2 channel music system and wanting to run movies through it from the tv.  I know that TOSLINK  from the TV isn’t the best.  Is there a way to clean it up a bit before it goes into the DAC?

+1 we really need to know more. Optical is not as high a quality, but on a budget two channel system, it is probably not noticeable.

And really, the best thing would be to use a surround processor and add a third central speaker of the same make and model. Most of the dialog comes through the center channel and using a stereo pair to create the center is no where near as good as a center channel.

If possible just get a budget surround system, AVR plus speakers. They are very inexpensive and even a very budget oriented system can sound amazing... for video.

Video is different than a stereo music system. You mind is focused on the video and so the quality of the sound is not as important as the directionality... this is what brings its realism. So, very different design requirements between the two systems. I’d look at best by for an inexpensive surround system and leave the two separate if that is an option.

Yes there sure is a way, for years i used this great little device from Monarchy Audio, its called a DIP, it has inputs and outputs for the digital signal, it will take the optical IN and allow you to use a Digital XLR or RCA out! Wonderful device. Plus it takes the signal coming in and re aligns the timing elements and  puts them in proper order and kills jitter!

What TV? The specific model not just brand.

Also you need an HDMI processing system

Without knowing what gear you are running it is difficult to say, but personally I have an Anthem AVR connected to my Musical Fidelity M6si via an HT bypass connection. it works seemlessly and allows for the HDMI and ARC connectivity and centre channel output that is required for most video output.

I have the Qobuz app for music from TV and it has a an option in 'settings' that allows for 16/44 resolution. Samsung streaming PCM through toslink to DAC. The sound quality is excellent.
