Squeaky turntable

Could the squeak be attributed to the belt? I would go ahead and talc the belt or replace, never hurts to have a new one on hand anyway and oil the motor.

I would do exactly the same.

When you start-up or when you touch (the platter?) while spinning, there is a side stress on the spindle and bearing.  Both events pull the platter to one side.  It is possible that, after weeks of rotating, either the lubricant in the bearing well is worn out or leaked out or that the bearing well itself has suffered some inordinate wear.  The simplest thing to do is to remove the platter and inspect the bearing and the well for the level of lubricant and the shaft and ball for signs of wear.  Ask Rega what are the norms for lubricant and then at least replenish the lube, if warranted by what you observe.  If you're lucky, the others are correct, and what you hear is only the belt slipping.

To update the situation, I just received the white Rega belt and the squeak is gone.  More than that, the sound has miraculously improved:  much tighter, more focused, better in every way. Now I can't wait til I get the aluminum subplatter!
