This sure was an old thread :)
As I "climbed" the ladder, I found myself not changing equipment nearly as often. First of all, it's too costly to change in this price category. Second of all, it's too heavy to move those big speakers and amps. Third, when I finally find good synergy, I am afraid to lose it.
So I have lived with BAT 75SE and SF Amati for years and just recently changed the amp to 150SE. I have tried a few other speakers since, SF Guarneri Memento, Usher BE-718, and almost bought MBL 116. Just sold the Usher because I was hitting my shipping quota, will most likely buy a pair back.
So no regret recently, until I buy the big Usher BE-20 and my wife forces me to sell the Amati, I am sure I will regret when it happens even though I love Usher BE-20. |
Semi, get those User BE-20s!!! You wont regret it. I am sure it is going to be very hard for me to find a speaker that can replace my beloved BE-10. But its either get new speakers, a new house, or a new wife. I definitely cannot afford the last two options! |

Dynaudio 1.3SE. Bought them, sold them to upgrade, re-bought them, sold them thinking I could do better... bought them again. These little suckers amaze me everytime I listen to them. Massive sound for such a small cabinet. I have not found a monitor to match the skills for double the price.... that is until the C1 came around. |
Audio Physic Virgo II. I 'upgraded' to Focal JM Labs Diva Utopia Be. The Divas might be better (might have been underpowered with my 22wpc SET KR tube monos), but still, didn't sound as good really. The Virgo IIs are mighty special. |

Looked awful, sounded worse. Best improvement was blowing the 5" cone midrange and replacing it with a 10ohm wirewound resistor. |

I sold my Amati Homage, bought Aerial 20T instead. very different speakers, I could live happily with either but I do miss Amati more than I enjoy Aerial...
I also own Guarneri Memento now, they will probably be buried with me. |

Sonus Faber Cocertino Home. Concertino's were my first "real" speaker. What a sweet sound they made, but no bass. I sold these to get a pair of Paradigm Studio 20s (I think ver 2). The Paradigm's had lots more bass, but boy did I miss the way the Concertino's produced music. |
ALL. I just sold some used "el cheapo" speakers without really studing the current market situation for "el cheapo" speakers in my area. It seams that use cheap speakers that still work are in high demand, one because you can't really buy anything new because of the failure of several high profile retailers. Two, almost everything has gone Home Theater. Three, price is way up and quality is way down. I have seen several pricey home theater speaker systems that make my first pair of SoundDesigns from 35 years ago look almost high end. I wish I would have paid attention and held onto my Cerwin Vegas. |
