Sound Upgrade from a Bryston Bdp-3

Have a Bryston Bdp-3.

Like to get something with different sound as it seems to be tilted to the upper frequencies when using Tital. Running thru the the Bda3 Dac

How would a Lumin U1 do.

Replies please

What connection are you using between BDP and BDA? And what brand/model cable?

I dumped the bdp3 due to software problems but I thought it sounded great, and I was running it into the same DAC that you are.

Have you tried with with another source besides Tidal?I used Qobuz and my NAS

Im using AES connection With Orchid Illuminations cable.

Tried all inputs  RCA ect with Silnote Morphias

Still upper Midrange Highs are somewhat elevated comparred to my Jays Transport

Compared Tital to Qbuzz Tital sounds less congested

@hiend2 I would use AES with Jay’s and USB between BDP and BDA. Try a good USB cable before you switch streamers. Also a good power cord is essential with BDA-3.

FWIW I ran Lumin U1 Mini with BDA-3 via USB. Tried AES but still preferred USB. The sound was never harsh. Lumin app is pretty crappy but so is the Manic Moose. If you’re looking for a nice streamer look into Aurender.

It very well might be worthwhile to audition Qobuz just to see if that makes a difference.  Cheers

I’m using USB between my BDP-3 and Esoteric K-05XD. Everytime I switch input I have to switch off the streamer and then switch on again. The system is Linux based and with USB is important to be turned on AFTER the DAC. According to Bryston this will be avoided with AES/S/PDIF.  ”SPDIF doesn't rely on drivers and proper boot sequence like USB does”. I will try a SPDIF cable instead of my current USB connection to avoid the hassle.
