So I Just Bought a Cassette Deck

I was big into cassettes for OTA recording for many years in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, and of course, for use in the car. When my last deck died in 2006, I figured that was the end. But, missing the fun of tape I just picked up a used but great-condition Nakamichi deck. So, a couple questions.

I heard there are new cassettes being made by a US company. They’re only making type 2 tapes. I believe the company has a 3-letter name. Anyone familiar with this?

Secondly, looking for any good tape deck repair places in the New England area. Or anywhere in the US really. All my go-to guys from years ago are gone. Any recommendations?

Thanks all.

Thanks all.

It's a Nak Cassette Deck 1 Limited. The only silver deck I’ve ever owned, matches my other stuff.

Deck was just serviced by the previous owner, but looking for service provider in case I should have any issues down the road.

Deck was just serviced by the previous owner,

@jaybe If you can, ask the previous owner if the power supply filter capacitors were replaced. Any cassette machine is old enough these days that these parts should be replaced if the machine is to be reliable. If they fail, they can take the power transformer with them.
