If my experience is typical, don't ship UPS. They'll find new and interesting ways to destroy your speakers.

How far is the shipping location? meet halfway.? We went through 4-5 pairs of Energy rc-70’s shipped, ups and fedex were used, bases wrecked, sides cracked, puncture holes in boxes. took. Me about 5-6 months receiving, and sending back to get a good pair. It’s a shame, all those great speakers destroyed in transit. ups and fed ex guys are all morons, they don’t care, dropping the boxes off the truck to the street, I’m sure the boxes was adequate, but the delivery guys were mindless, idiots! good luck w shipping. I would triple box w padding, more padding on a pallet for safety. |
+1 for riaa.... If you're in a position to be able to put a second box on the original packing, it would be a winner. I used to box up speakers from the loudspeaker manufacturer I worked for, and ship around the globe. Stand mount speakers in cardboard with foam had a soft material wrapped over speakers to not scratch the finish. His larger 165lb floor standers went into ply crates, on a baby pallet. It was an expensive learning experience, I often wondered if a GoPro attached might show them being dropped, rolled, or heavy items dropped onto them in transit?! |
Follow this https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/help-large-speakers-fell-over-during-shipping to learn what you need to know. Strap them to a pallet! |
Many people prefer to have a CLEAN Original box...for any gear. If you send it in just the original boxes dont be surprised that they get it with holes and many marks/discoloration on it. I once sent 20K+ ARC Amps in their original WHITE BOXES and when they arrived 3 days later to the customer they were almost completely BLACK. He took photos. NO IDEA how the hell that happened in just 3 days. |
second layer of cardboard around the boxes. literally make a second box. seal the second box via a high powered glue gun (for the flow rate). this stabilizes/stiffens the whole thing into being nearly impregnable to ripping open due to any stressing and also helps enormously in preventing puncture. I’ve even shipped dynaco A-50’s this way and also shipped many others. |
What is the weight? If you go much above 70lbs per box, that is when the horrible handling of FedEx UPS creates a risk. I shipped a pair of Zu Essences which are packed in like 4 inches of foam. I assume FedEx dropped one of the boxes off the back of the truck and the base of the speaker was damaged. Palletizing and shipping via freight is better but far more expensive. If you ship those LTL, expect it to be $500+ for freight. Best thing is to sell them locally. |
