Roger Waters-Amused to Death

Had never heard of this album until I heard 'It's a Miracle' and just had to buy it.
Original authorised copies on Columbia are very rare (Limited Edition Set) and mastered direct to lacquer from all-analogue Master Tapes.

Have the original on this. 1992 I believe cut from original lacquer, All Analogue. Yes, that's how it's spelled on the record. These go for big $.
mijostyn....+1........how about that explosion.......I enjoy all of RW's recordings, as it is an insight to who Waters is. EC on Hitchhiking is as wonderful. Just like audio gear, people enjoy different things, musically.
People love that barking dog but the real highlight of this record is Jeff Beck's guitar playing.

I'm with you on this.  It's not great MUSIC.  I get the holographic soundstage and recording bells and whistles, which are pretty cool, but the songs seem disjointed and never quite get going.
Thank the Lord I am not on my own on my distaste for this piece of work.

Had held off commenting as I always get flak about it.

For me it is just not musical and comes across as a disjointed effort with some great special effects.

I will take Hitchhiking or Radio K.A.O.S anyday.
It may be a technically great recording but I have had problems warming up to it regarding several things. The choice of female vocal always struck me the wrong way. It, in it's totality, doesn't come near some of RW other lps. I own the AP lp
Bartender
what is wrong with me
why am I so out of breath?

the bartender says
”excuse me ma’am
but the species has
amused itself to death”.
@halcro  Have you heard the Roger Waters 'In The Flesh Tour' DVD? Simply brilliant.
Stunning SACD, one of the most impressive on my shelves in all 3 dimensions.  I had a similar experience the dogs barking 10-12' to right of speakers, down the hall and behind the wall in the yard and the radio broadcast similarly impressive to the far left of room and then some!
I listened to the album 3-4 times before I realized the barking dogs in the first 5 minutes were actually in the recording and not directly to my right and outside the house. Stunningly wide sound stage at no noticeable loss of sound quality.
I've got a NM original from Analogue tapes. Been meaning to play it for ages. They go for big money on e-bay, but who knows. I remember it to be a great recording, but haven't played it in years.
I love it.  I have both the vinyl and the SACD.  The Q Sound surrounds you with music in a 2 channel system.  It is always one of my "go to" pieces of music.
