Revel F36 or Dali Oberon 7

Hey guys,

Decided to let go of my Martin Logan 60xti.  They were just too harsh for me. I tried to like them, couldn't. get there.  Budget is 1000k per speaker.

I've narrowed it down to Revel F36 or Dali Oberon 7.

Looking for some advice (pros and cons)....room is large. My seating position is 9-10ft from speaker. I enjoy my music as higher volumes, 95 SPL.

  • Amps - Schiit Tyr(s),
  • Preamp -- Schiit Freya+
  • Streamer -- Lumin T1 mini

Thanks!

Vote for the Revels.  I just picked up a used pair of F35s in black.  Sweet top end and plenty of midbass punch for small tower speakers. You’ll get even more with the 36s.  I have not listened to the Dalis at home.

I have owned the Dali OB. 7’s and now have Revel (Be series) in my main system. Whilst I have never auditioned the F series I MUCH prefer the Revel sound to the Dali’s. I had the 7’s in a second system and ended up selling them. I tried the Opticon 6 and never really warmed up to them either. I found the Dali sound to be kind of dull and too laid back for my tastes. I would say the Revel’s have a much livelier sound, not bright at all, just more “alive” and more airy and detailed. I would also agree the Revel’s have a huge edge in the bass dept.

I bought the Dali’s without auditioning figuring I loved the Dynaudio sound and both being Danish manufacturers (at the time Dynaudio was too expensive for a second system for me) figured they’d be similar but found that not to be the case…

Best of luck and remember to always enjoy the ride👍🏻

I don’t know what you’re actual expectations are but if your looking to fill a big room at reasonably high sound pressure levels w/ a full bottom end & smooth mid range & treble etc., I doubt a $2000 pair of speakers will suffice even used ones. 6” woofers simply can’t do that  job in a big room unless maybe there’s a lot of them or they have some good subs to help out.

Well, I already purchased the Dali Oberon 7s.  They are arriving on Friday.  The plan is to do an a/b against the ML 60xti.  From there, I will return which ever ones I dont like.  The ML 60xti definitely fill up the room, they have much more output than my KEF R3 Metas, at least in my system they do.

Its sounding like I need to purchase a set of Revels as well.  I do have a couple REL TX/9s.

Yeah, I got to make the best out of a $2K budget.

Chiming in here as the largest DALI dealer in North America and ex Revel dealer.

The Oberon 7 are really fun musical speakers.

For DALI, we feel that the Opticon 6 mkII is the most enjoyable and musically satisfying speaker at the price point by far.  Could easily be had by any good DALI dealer (not online retailer who charges full price which includes margin that helps them supplement their return policy) for under $2,000 out the door.  Made in Denmark, not China like the Revels.  So that is a big factor as well.

We feel like the Opticons are the first step in the "true" DALI sound.

When you get the Oberon 7's make sure you point them straight out with barely any toe in.  I say this because when you point them truly straight out, they will look toed OUT.  The key is to toe them in SLIGHTLY so that they look "straight" when you sit in the listening position.   Please reach out to us if you need any help.  We are happy to help even if you didn't purchase from us.  We also routinely recommend customers products we do not carry, because we are not focused on always selling what benefits us, but what makes the buyer the happiest.   It sounds like BS, but we have found that this rewards us with customers who truly trust us and it pays off in the long run.  :)
