Rega reference belt disappointment

My RP3 is about 11 to 12 years old and has the original belt and I thought it might be time to replace it. I figured I would get the Reference EBLT belt, and why not? Rega’s site shows how much better it is with respect to wow and flutter, right?

The disappointment comes from testing both old and new with my phone RPM APP.
The old belt has a WOW of around plus or minus 0.08 %. The new “Reference” belt shoots up to plus or minus 0.27%

Ok the App may not be the most accurate with respect to the actual value displayed but the repeatability would suggest the new belt is worse than the old. So what the hell, Rega? I will give it a few more hours to see if it settles in but so far I’m disappointed.

I tried to post my pic’s of the app results but couldn’t figure out how.

Does a turntable belt have a break-in period?  If so, then maybe you should give it time and then retest.

Now I wonder if….  Interesting timing for your post.  I have a P5 with Groove Tracer sub platter and Platter.  I upgraded to Neo TT PSU a couple of years ago (whole other post).  Long story short, I was checking to see if motor was rubbing against platter and noticed the white Rega belt was sloppy (on TT for quite a while) put new spare white belt on. No more slop. But considered purchasing new reference ELBT.    Food for thought

I guess I'm just confused as to why you don't contact Rega first, or your local Rega distributor, and tell them about this issue and they might have an explanation/solution.

This way you don't have to engage this forum to speculate about what the issue is, which doesn't really help you much

Complaining here before even reaching out to the manufacturer seems to be putting the cart before the horse, in my humble opinion.
