Projectors now vs 15 years ago

I'm buying a new house with a basement and looking at projectors again. It's been many years since I dove into this world and back then I had more time to research and get familiar with the popular models. What all has changed since then? Bulb life longer?  Brightness?  Color accuracy?  What are some bangin projectors that won't break the bank today?

Note, I recently had a short throw projector and hated it. Maybe I should try it again, but it was just eh and if you accidentally touch it, it moves. not good with kids around.

I'm always looking for the best bang for the buck.. I don't mind spending a few thousand but crazy.

I still prefer the way a projector looks compared to a flat panel TV, but my screen is 135" so I'm sure that has something to do with it.

You can now get a 100" TV for less than $2,000. While I wouldn't go bottom fishing by cost, there are a large number of 100" screens available from everywhere from Costco to Best Buy.

Every time I looked at projectors the sharpness was way prevented me from going that way. Since then I  have just upgraded the size. So, unless you have an auditorium you can get a tack sharp LCD or OLED screen. They are now practically paper thin (well, not that thin yet... but incredibly thin).

i have a separate 2 channel hifi room and completely separate home theater room with a JVC RS-4500 4k front projector and 2:35 screen and a 9.3.6 Dolby Atmos speaker system. i only mention that to say that i do somewhat understand front projectors, but i know i am not current on what is happening, and honestly this forum is not the place where the front projector knowledge and discussions are prevalent. sure some here might know stuff, but it’s not the place where it’s discussed much at all.

you want to go to the AVS Forum and start on the "Ultra High End" sub forum here:

https://www.avsforum.com/forums/ultra-hi-end-ht-gear-20-000.86/

that is where there are people who are the most knowledgeable and passionate on this subject are that are willing to answer questions.. there are probably a few other spots too, but AVS is the main spot.
