Generally you want a low capacitance cable between the turntable and phono stage. Look to see what manufacturers give measurements for this.
This is most critical when using MM cartridges, but search for the discussions about MC loading where J Carr (designer of Lyra cartridges) provides insight that a lower capacitance cable between the turntable and the phono stage when using a MC cartridge can allow the loading to be lighter (a higher number) possibly allowing better response of MC cartridge. I would recommend your ultimate acquisition allow the best performance of either type of cartridge by being low capacitance. My phono cable and tonearm wire capacitance is 65pf total and Hana and Lyra cartridges have performed with great transparency.
