For me, I always wanted two so I could hook up my old turntable as well as my primary. I was finally able to do it with my first ARC Ref. It lasted two days. My primary turntable sounded so much better that I immediately knew I would never use it… also it just added more equipment to my racks for no reason.

For my sins, I have 2 phono amplifiers feeding the preamp.
