North Carolina Audio Club

Let's start a NC Audio Club. Any comments? Any suggestions about how to promote our interest and perhaps hear other folks systems, or benefit from their experiences?

tarheeltraveler...calloway here..i am in Danville,va..about 1 1/2 hr away and i have a good friend in Greensboro. maybe we can meet sometime at one of our houses and listen to music, et al..
I'm in the Winston-Salem area and would love to get together with other a-philes.  I may have more luck reaching others using the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, but here goes:  tarheeltraveler at the major ISP starting with the letter "g".   Is anyone out there?  Rick
If anybody stumbles into this forum, I'm in Asheville.  I wouldn't mind hearing from some local 'philes, but Please don't expect to see/hear a megabuck system in a pristine environment.  Far from that...but if you'd like to offer a pair of ears to listen to a set of DIY Walsh speakers and offer some 'constructive critique', I might be your guy.  Personal taste is pretty eclectic, '60's and beyond...I listen to what 'amuses' me.  And I don't own a pair of ears that can hear dog whistles or the discrete difference between cable A or X, either.  And I promise not to just simply astound one with trying rattle any loose objects of the shelves with 100+ db.  But that itch can be scratched if one must...

Besides, AVL is the 'beer capital'.  It's like mushrooms after rain around here...

But I Would appreciate another pair of ears for reference's sake, if you'd care to be a 'test crash dummy' *L*.
I see the last response was from almost two years ago. Is there any renewed interest in this? None of my friends are as passionate about music as me, and neither is my wife.
I have gotten down here but have had further complications with my health so that I don't even have my system together yet. Fell down walking the dog a couple of weeks ago and had a concussion which made me spend 2 days in the hospital in Asheville. Better now but still weak. Enjoy your health while you have it. Stan.

Audio Advice in Raleigh, is a nice place to sit around and talk about our wonderful hobby. Ask for Mel.
Would be nice to get together and trade knowledge of the hobby.
I think one of the issues is the lack of hi end shops here in Wake County.
We are relocating to Charlotte NC by the end of August 2013. Any audio clubs or groups in this area? Thanks! Mike
At one time, I can remember reading about Audio Advice in Raleigh, sponsored an audio club. Is it still active?
Yesterday I tried to post a request to communicate with more analog audiophiles in the Georgia area who also have an interest in reel to reel tape decks and pre recorded tapes. However, my was reset for the North Carolina area. I no longer reside in that area but has since moved to Georgia.

musicmanbob
Would love to meet more analog lovers who might also use reel to reel tape decks.

This is what Audiogon sent me today "Audiogon plans to release direct user messaging very soon to address this need to contact other users without having to reveal private user information.

I hope soon means soon as it is of highest priority to members
Hi two channel,
I'm game to do some listening. I live in Jackson co and my business is in Asheville. I'm looking to make the move to Buncombe Co. by the new year. Jackson co might be a stretch for some. Eventually Asheville would probably be better in term of travel. Count me in.

This is where AudiogoN has gone off the tracks. It makes complete sense to advise people to not post personal information but they have precluded us from contacting one another privately. There are other audio forums without these silly restrictions where we can organize these events.
I would like to attend and organize a meeting but the powers that be keep "unapproving" any attempts to communicate.

If you look at "Post your response", this is what Audiogone states...

Club members: feel free to post news or more info about your club.

New visitors: If you are interested in joining a local club, post your location only. Interested members will be able to contact you through your post. Do not post your phone number or address in this public area.

From what I have gathered, unless we already know each other? There is no way any audio club can grow. I have offered other avenues to organize and yet again, the moderators have unapproved the post.

Tom
Contacting buyers and sellers can be done only through the listing, but I'll bet they took the email option away for everything else so that back door trades don't take place without paying. As well as all the other quirks with passwords and such. What used to be one of my favorite audio sites is now at the bottom of the list. Anyways, you are correct the sense of community is long gone.
Yes, having no PM has really degraded the value on a'gon to me as well. I do not even see how buy-sell can be done without this and it nearly distroys the sense of community the used to be here
Gammajo,
Lack of emailing members another of my dissatisfactions when A'gon redid their website.
Mike I would also like have you tell your Hendersonville friend about me for a possible get together as I live in Hendersonville but I do not see how to PM anymore on this site. Are you a member of AudioCircle or know of some other way to send contact information?
Joe
My wife lived outside of Franklin NC when we met 8 years ago: we looked for a house in Asheville, Brevard and Hendersonville before we moved up here 6 years ago. She has wanted to come back ever since and we have found a nice house in Waynesville. She has some medical exams to take before we close on the house but if they are all right we will be moving in Sept. We are both retired and looking forward to getting there if not the move itself. [LOL]
I am in the Hendersonville area, am having my Von Schweikerts upgraded to VR 5 anniversary Mark II's and run an Ayon cd5S as front end. Would live to connect in about a month

I live in Waynesville, Stanwal. There are a few of us scattered around these parts (within thirty minutes or so of Asheville). Drop me a line when you touch down and we'll find a time to get together. That's quite a system you've assembled there. I'd love to hear it!
Stanwal,
Beautiful part of the world. Where you moving from, and are you retiring there or for work? I have a tube-audiophile friend who lives in Hendersonville, who is not active on these sights. If you send me a PM with your info when you get here I will pass iy on your info to him, so he can contact you if he chooses.
Mike
I am moving to Waynesville this fall and would like to meet other audiophiles in the area [Asheville, Hendersonville, Waynesville].
Where might this location be? If this is where we start it back up? Then so be it.

Tom
Agreed. I have the same user name on AudioKarma if you want to send me a PM from that site we can connect.
Perhaps Sunday, March 11? Or what sort of work schedule do you keep? Maybe during the week. I have a very flexible schedule, so I am up for weekday get-togethers. I'm not keen on posting my cell number or email in here, so let's figure out how to connect. Smoke signals, maybe? ;-)
Colorfulpellets,
We live only 1 mile away. Lets get together this weekend or sometime soon. I don't see anyway to send a personal message or email thru A'gon to connect. Any ideas?
M
Chiming in from Durham. I'd be happy to host or go to listening sessions within half an hour or so.
I'm ready when you guys are. I am happy to host a session any time soon, but I can't promise a big professional "listening area". I have my stereo gear set up in the sitting room off my master suite, and it is not a big room. For a get-together, I would probably move the system to my great room so as to accommodate additional sets of ears.
But it all sounds fun, so let's give it a rip!!
..calloway here...i live in danville,va which is about 1 1/4 hrs from raleigh...anything within 2 hrs would be great...
I live in the greater Mecklenburg area. I have attended the club located in Raleigh - nice group of guys - so I don't mind a dirve. I would like to see something get going in the Charlotte area.

I like Ron's idea. It could be a good start.
I'm very close in Monteith Pk. Colorfulpellects. We need to get together for sure.
Mike
Thanks for the response, Mjcmt! I will complete my virtual system post this weekend (traveling all week) and take pics.
I'm in NorthStone; whereabouts are you? Definitely up for music sessions!
Colorfullpellets,
This is very cool. I as well live in Huntersville and would like to get together for a listening session or two. Not to worry about a modest system, all systems can be a pleasure to enjoy and worth gathering over some good music. You should post your current system under virtual systems.
I see with this new A'gon website changes there is know way to send a private message so we can further this conversation.
I'm in. I live in Huntersville and would be happy to contribute in any way/shape/form to a greater Mecklenburg audio club.
I have a VERY modest setup, but it would be fun to work it out for some of you "golden ears" and let you critique at will.
(No, I'm not a masochist LOL!)
Ron, it seems as if this club has either disbanded or completely fallen apart due to no one actually responding in a timely manner for such a club, or even for such a clubs existence for that matter. I have interest in starting up either a Charlotte Audio Club or a regional audio club of some sort. As not to step on the toes of those who have preceded myself, this can be a separate or a combined club and I will always welcome those who came before me to join me or resume as they were to make this a wonderful experience for all that choose to participate. No matter whether it be more of a local thing or regional. Regardless of whatever may transpire, I will lead or assist as needed to make this a reality once again.

If you don't mind, we could have the first meeting and GTG at your pad to not only see what you have to offer but start the new chapter or rekindle the old one from there. I'll get in touch with you off of this forum to see what we can arrange and I look forward to making some headway toward making this actually happen.

In the meantime, could you be so kind as to forward me the contact information of the cat who is in charge of the currently defunct Charlotte Audiophile Society?

Until then, enjoy the music.
I'm in Sanford. What do we need to do to get the ball rolling? Email me at Vernon30515@yahoo.com
Ron Buffington of Liquid HiFi chiming in again.

The Charlotte Audiophile Society is not currently active although the leader of that group puts on a nice headphone show once a year.

I would be willing to host a group of 15-20 on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon to demonstrate the systems I have on display.

Liquid HiFi currently has on display 7 systems at various price levels with many award winning products from many of the top manufacturers.

Interested parties organizing events please contact me direct to set up a meeting

thank you
Trietz
Are you still in the mountains? I am in Hendersonville area and would love to get together. Charlotte is a little far for me.
Charlotte, NC chiming in. Hello all. Is there any club built up yet or should I start organizing one? I have already hosted and organized an audio event here in the mountains of North Carolina every year for 5 years running where folks fly or drive in from all over the US and Canada, so organizing something on the local scene would be a breeze.

I have been in this hobby since I was 8 years old listening to my Uncle Tommy's tube rig and after a 20 or so year hiatus, got back into it hardcore about 6 years ago. If nothing has been set up so far concerning the North Carolina Audio Club, let's stop the talk and walk the walk.

Regards,
Check out the Capital Audiofest 2011 updates. Hope to see you there. www.capitalaudiofest.com
Are there any audio clubs or audiophiles north of Charlotte, NC (in the Huntersville/ Cornelius/Lake Norman area)? Years ago there was a club that met about 50 miles away on the south suburbs of Charlotte so I only attended a few times.
